01 Jan 1999TL;DR: An algorithm is presented that provably reconstructs a curve in the framework introduced by Amenta, Bern and Eppstein and requires a sampling density better than previously known and can be adapted for curve reconstruction in higher dimensions straightforwardly.
Abstract: We present an algorithm that provably reconstructs a curve in the framework introduced by Amenta, Bern and Eppstein. The highlights of the algorithm are: (i) it is simple, (ii) it requires a sampling density better than previously known, (iii) it can be adapted for curve reconstruction in higher dimensions straightforwardly.

TL;DR: Results indicate nonmulberry 3D silk gland fibroin protein as an inexpensive, high-strength, slow biodegradable, biocompatible, and alternative natural biomaterial.
Abstract: This paper describes a new source for fabricating high-strength, non-bioengineered silk gland fibroin 3D scaffolds from Indian tropical tasar silkworm, Antheraea mylitta using SDS for dissolution. The scaffolds were fabricated by freeze drying at different prefreezing temperatures for pore size and porosity optimization. Superior mechanical properties with compressive strength in the range of 972 kPa were observed. The matrices were degraded by proteases within 28 d of incubation. Biocompatibility was assessed by feline fibroblast culture in vitro and confocal microscopy further confirmed adherence, spreading, and proliferation of primary dermal fibroblasts. Results indicate nonmulberry 3D silk gland fibroin protein as an inexpensive, high-strength, slow biodegradable, biocompatible, and alternative natural biomaterial. [Figure: see text].

TL;DR: In this paper, tailor-made ABA triblock copolymers bearing a reactive pendant furfuryl group were successfully synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization, and the chemical compositions were calculated by 1H NMR, and molecular weights and molecular weight distributions were determined by gel permeation chromatography analysis.
Abstract: Tailor-made ABA triblock copolymers (poly(furfuryl methacrylate)-b-poly(2-ethylhexyl acrylate)-b-poly(furfuryl methacrylate) (FEF)) bearing a reactive pendant furfuryl group were successfully synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization. The chemical compositions were calculated by 1H NMR, and molecular weights and molecular weight distributions were determined by gel permeation chromatography analysis. The tensile properties of the triblock copolymers such as tensile strength, elongation at break, and tension set were studied. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) show the existence of two glass transition temperatures (Tg) and thereby the presence of well-defined soft and hard phase. Thermoreversible self-healing material was successfully prepared by using Diels−Alder reaction between this reactive furfuryl group (diene) of the ABA triblock copolymer and a bismaleimide (dienophile). Thermoreversible property of the polymer was confirmed by FTIR and...

01 Jun 2009TL;DR: It is reassuring to know that the consumption of palm oil as a source of dietary fat does not pose any additional risks for coronary artery disease when consumed in realistic amounts as part of a healthy diet.
Abstract: Increasingly, over the past 40 years, the conception of diet has undergone major changes. Many of these changes involve changes in dietary intake of fats and oils. There has been an increasing cons...
