TL;DR: The creation of type-II staggered band alignment in MoTe2/MoS2 van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures with strong interlayer coupling could improve the fundamental understanding of the essential physics behind vdW heterostructure and help the design of next-generation infrared optoelectronics.
Abstract: We demonstrate the type-II staggered band alignment in MoTe2/MoS2 van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures and an interlayer optical transition at ∼1.55 μm. The photoinduced charge separation between the MoTe2/MoS2 vdW heterostructure is verified by Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) under illumination, density function theory (DFT) simulations and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. Photoelectrical measurements of MoTe2/MoS2 vdW heterostructures show a distinct photocurrent response in the infrared regime (1550 nm). The creation of type-II vdW heterostructures with strong interlayer coupling could improve our fundamental understanding of the essential physics behind vdW heterostructures and help the design of next-generation infrared optoelectronics.

TL;DR: The synthesis of two-dimensional (2D) Cu-based hybrid perovskites is presented and their optoelectronic properties studied to investigate their potential application in solar cells and light-emitting devices, providing a new environmental-friendly alternative to Pb.
Abstract: Despite their extremely good performance in solar cells with efficiencies approaching 20% and the emerging application for light-emitting devices, organic–inorganic lead halide perovskites suffer from high content of toxic, polluting, and bioaccumulative Pb, which may eventually hamper their commercialization. Here, we present the synthesis of two-dimensional (2D) Cu-based hybrid perovskites and study their optoelectronic properties to investigate their potential application in solar cells and light-emitting devices, providing a new environmental-friendly alternative to Pb. The series (CH3NH3)2CuClxBr4–x was studied in detail, with the role of Cl found to be essential for stabilization. By exploiting the additional Cu d–d transitions and appropriately tuning the Br/Cl ratio, which affects ligand-to-metal charge transfer transitions, the optical absorption in this series of compounds can be extended to the near-infrared for optimal spectral overlap with the solar irradiance. In situ formation of Cu+ ions w...

TL;DR: A novel concept of edge computing for mobile blockchain and an economic approach for edge computing resource management are introduced and a prototype of mobile edge computing enabled blockchain systems are presented with experimental results to justify the proposed concept.
Abstract: Blockchain, as the backbone technology of the current popular Bitcoin digital currency, has become a promising decentralized data management framework. Although blockchain has been widely adopted in many applications (e.g., finance, healthcare, and logistics), its application in mobile services is still limited. This is due to the fact that blockchain users need to solve preset proof-of-work puzzles to add new data (i.e., a block) to the blockchain. Solving the proof of work, however, consumes substantial resources in terms of CPU time and energy, which is not suitable for resource-limited mobile devices. To facilitate blockchain applications in future mobile Internet of Things systems, multiple access mobile edge computing appears to be an auspicious solution to solve the proof-of-work puzzles for mobile users. We first introduce a novel concept of edge computing for mobile blockchain. Then we introduce an economic approach for edge computing resource management. Moreover, a prototype of mobile edge computing enabled blockchain systems is presented with experimental results to justify the proposed concept.

TL;DR: In this article, a composite TFA anode is proposed for Li-ion batteries, which not only provides large interfacial area for lithium insertion/extraction but also reduces the diffusion pathways for electronic and ionic transport, leading to improved capacity retention on cycling even at high discharge-charge rates.
Abstract: Highly ordered TiO2@α-Fe2O3 core/shell arrays on carbon textiles (TFAs) have been fabricated by a stepwise, seed-assisted, hydrothermal approach and further investigated as the anode materials for Li-ion batteries (LIBs). This composite TFA anode exhibits superior high-rate capability and outstanding cycling performance. The specific capacity of the TFAs is much higher than that of pristine carbon textiles (CTs) and TiO2 nanorod arrays on carbon textiles (TRAs), indicating a positive synergistic effect of the material and structural hybridization on the enhancement of the electrochemical properties. This composite nanostructure not only provides large interfacial area for lithium insertion/extraction but should also be beneficial in reducing the diffusion pathways for electronic and ionic transport, leading to the improved capacity retention on cycling even at high discharge–charge rates. It is worth emphasizing that the CT substrates also present many potential virtues for LIBs as flexible electronic devices owing to the stretchable, lightweight and biodegradable properties. The fabrication strategy presented here is facile, cost-effective, and scalable, which opens new avenues for the design of optimal composite electrode materials for high performance LIBs.

TL;DR: This Perspective summarizes a series of iron-catalyzed C-C bond formation reactions developed by us, which include (asymmetric) carbometalation of olefins, cross-coupling of alkyl halides, and activation of sp(2) and sp(3) C-H bonds.
Abstract: The use of iron as a catalyst for organic synthesis has been increasingly attracting the interest of chemists from economical and ecological points of view. While Fe(III) and Fe(II) catalysts have long been used as Lewis acids for synthesis, we have been interested in exploration of catalysis based on rather unexplored organoiron chemistry since the late 1990s. This Perspective summarizes a series of iron-catalyzed C−C bond formation reactions developed by us, which include (asymmetric) carbometalation of olefins, cross-coupling of alkyl halides, and activation of sp2 and sp3 C−H bonds.
