TL;DR: It is proved that strapdown INS alignment, considering the unknown constant sensor biases, will be completely observable if the strap down INS is rotated successively about two different axes and will be nearly observable for finite known unobservable states (no more than two) if it is rotated about a single axis.
Abstract: Alignment of the strapdown inertial navigation system (INS) has strong nonlinearity, even worse when maneuvers, e.g., tumbling techniques, are employed to improve the alignment. There is no general rule to attack the observability of a nonlinear system, so most previous works addressed the observability of the corresponding linearized system by implicitly assuming that the original nonlinear system and the linearized one have identical observability characteristics. Strapdown INS alignment is a nonlinear system that has its own characteristics. Using the inherent properties of strapdown INS, e.g., the attitude evolution on the SO(3) manifold, we start from the basic definition and develop a global and constructive approach to investigate the observability of strapdown INS static and tumbling alignment, highlighting the effects of the attitude maneuver on observability. We prove that strapdown INS alignment, considering the unknown constant sensor biases, will be completely observable if the strapdown INS is rotated successively about two different axes and will be nearly observable for finite known unobservable states (no more than two) if it is rotated about a single axis. Observability from a global perspective provides us with insights into and a clearer picture of the problem, shedding light on previous theoretical results on strapdown INS alignment that were not comprehensive or consistent. The reporting of inconsistencies calls for a review of all linearization-based observability studies in the vast literature. Extensive simulations with constructed ideal observers and an extended Kalman filter are carried out, and the numerical results accord with the analysis. The conclusions can also assist in designing the optimal tumbling strategy and the appropriate state observer in practice to maximize the alignment performance.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that TiO2-based metal-insulator-metal devices are more than just a memory-resistor, they possess resistive, capacitive and inductive components that can concurrently be programmed; essentially exhibiting a convolution of memristive, memcapacitive and meminductive effects.
Abstract: Large attention has recently been given to a novel technology named memristor, for having the potential of becoming the new electronic device standard. Yet, its manifestation as the fourth missing element is rather controversial among scientists. Here we demonstrate that TiO2-based metal-insulator-metal devices are more than just a memory-resistor. They possess resistive, capacitive and inductive components that can concurrently be programmed; essentially exhibiting a convolution of memristive, memcapacitive and meminductive effects. We show how non-zero crossing current-voltage hysteresis loops can appear and we experimentally demonstrate their frequency response as memcapacitive and meminductive effects become dominant.

TL;DR: The problem of optimally redeploying the existing virtual network infrastructure as the network evolves is addressed and a heuristic algorithm is proposed and its effectiveness is validated by simulations evaluation.
Abstract: Network virtualization has been proposed as a powerful vehicle for running multiple customized networks on a shared infrastructure. Virtual network embedding is a critical step for network virtualization that deals with efficient mapping of virtual nodes and virtual links onto the substrate network resources. Previous work in virtual network embedding primarily focused on designing heuristic algorithms for static networks. Virtual network infrastructure should be reconfigured or redeployed in response to network growth. In this paper, we address the problem of optimally redeploying the existing virtual network infrastructure as the network evolves. This problem focus on minimizing the upgrading cost of virtual network, with satisfying node resource constraint and path delay constraint. It is shown that this problem is NP-hard. A heuristic algorithm is proposed and its effectiveness is validated by simulations evaluation.

TL;DR: It seems that the two fields exhibit different modulation effects on the gap, as the critical strength of perpendicular field for gap closure decreases with increasing number of layers, while thecritical strength of transverse field is almost independent of it.
Abstract: We report on the first-principles calculations of bandgap modulation in armchair MoS2 nanoribbon (AMoS2NR) by transverse and perpendicular electric fields respectively. In the monolayer AMoS2NR case, it is shown that the bandgap can be significantly reduced and be closed by transverse field, whereas the bandgap modulation is absent under perpendicular field. The critical strength of transverse field for gap closure decreases as ribbon width increases. In the multilayer AMoS2NR case, in contrast, it is shown that the bandgap can be effectively reduced by both transverse and perpendicular fields. Nevertheless, it seems that the two fields exhibit different modulation effects on the gap. The critical strength of perpendicular field for gap closure decreases with increasing number of layers, while the critical strength of transverse field is almost independent of it.
