Abstract: The paper deals with the testing of a rotary head for ultrasonically aided electrical discharge machining (EDM+US) that can be used at finishing and semifinishing modes and EDM with complex kinematics - “milling EDM”. The rotation movement using of the electrode-tool is justified by the fact that during the EDM process, the energy is dissipated over the machined surface, and thus its roughness is decreased. But this comes also with the higher instability of EDM process, often short-circuits between the tool and the workpiece, and the idle state due to the variable gap. The tool ultrasonic vibrations oriented perpendicular on the frontal machined surface confirmed both roughness and EDM stability improving, and consequently machining rate, at all working modes tested in this research. The curves of roughness and machining rate are presented at different values of tool rotation speed and consumed power on ultrasonic chain. The obtained surface microgeometry was also studied using scanning electron microscope.

Abstract: A new detection scheme for multiuser multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems is analytically presented. In particular, the transmitting users are being categorized in two distinct priority service groups, while they communicate directly with a multi-antenna receiver. The linear zero-forcing scheme is applied in two consecutive detection stages upon the signal reception. In the first stage, the signals of one service group are detected, followed by the second stage including the corresponding detection of the remaining signals. An appropriate switching scheme based on specific transmission quality requirements is utilized prior to the detection so as to allocate the signals of a given service group to the suitable detection stage. The objective is the enhancement of the reception quality for both service groups. The proposed approach can be implemented directly in cognitive radio communication assigning the secondary users to the appropriate service group. The exact outage probability of the considered system is derived in closed form.

Abstract: The proliferation and complexity of current integrated circuits (ICs) both as FPGA and as Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) and System-on-Chips (SoCs) determine that a high proportion of the custom, specialized logic on chip is designed and verified with High-level Synthesis/Verification techniques. However, low-level functions such as bit-level processing or signal coding are implemented manually, destroying the advantage of having a unified design flow for all parts of the chip. The main contribution of this work is to demonstrate that our Cubed-C High-level Synthesis (HLS) tool and method is able to deal with both complex and low-level blocks with ease and integrate the verification of both parts in one formal step, such as the cycleaccurate simulators which are produced at the output of the tool. The tools is flexible and can be used to design loop-based signal coding response blocks for both NRZ and RTZ algorithms, as shown further down in this paper. All of this of course are simulated and shown both at the RTL and the cycle-accurate simulator accuracies. Next session discusses existing work for HLS. Session III outlines the Cubed-C tools and methodology. Session IV discusses signal-coding algorithms. Session V presents experimental results. The last session concludes upon this work and draws future work extensions.

Abstract: A major source of energy exists where there is mixing between aqueous solutions of different salinities. This energy source is particularly concentrated where fresh water rivers flow on to the ocean. The power, represented by the osmotic pressure difference between fresh water and salt water, may be called salinity gradient power. In this study the pressure retarded osmosis method for the extraction of salinity gradients’ energy is investigated, main problems and difficulties are pointed out and finally the whole subject is justified with experimental results.

Abstract: Το άλeυρο σπόρων eλαιοκράμβης (ΑΣE), ένα υποπροϊόν eκχύλισης κατά την διαδικασία παραγωγής eλαίου σπόρων eλαιοκράμβης, eίναι μια eνδeχόμeνη πηγή πρωτeΐνης για χρησιμοποίηση στα σιτηρέσια των χοίρων. Για να υπολογιστούν τα καλύτeρα eπίπeδα συμμeτοχής του ΑΣE στα σιτηρέσια παχυνόμeνων χοίρων, όπως eπίσης η πeπτικότητα και eνeργeιακή αξία των σιτηρeσίων που πeριέχουν σταδιακά αυξανόμeνα eπίπeδα ΑΣE, διeξήχθη ένα πeίραμα πeπτικότητας. Το πeίραμα πραγματοποιήθηκe σύμφωνα μe ένα 4Χ4 πeιραματικό σχeδιασμό Λατινικού τeτραγώνου, στον οποίο χρησιμοποιήθηκαν 4 Large White x Landrace eυνουχισμένοι αρσeνικοί χοίροι μέσου αρχικού σωματικού βάρους 47,3 kg . Τα ζώα τοποθeτήθηκαν σe κλωβούς μeταβολισμού για όλη την πeιραματική πeρίοδο η συνολική διάρκeια της οποίας ήταν 66 ημέρeς. Το πeίραμα διαιρέθηκe σe 5 πeριόδους, μια πeρίοδο προσαρμογής και 4 πeιραματικές πeριόδους, κατά τη διάρκeια των οποίων οι χοίροι κατανάλωναν 4 πeιραματικά σιτηρέσια. Το σιτηρέσιο Μ (Μάρτυρας) ήταν ένα τυπικό σιτηρέσιο χοίρων μe βάση τον αραβόσιτο και το σογιάλeυρο, eνώ στα άλλα πeιραματικά σιτηρέσια προστέθηκe ΑΣE σe eπίπeδο 90 (Χαμηλό- Χ), 180 (Eνδιάμeσο- E) και 270 (Υψηλό- Υ) g . kg 1 σιτηρeσίου, αντίστοιχα. Κάθe πeιραματική πeρίοδος πeριeλάμβανe, μια πeρίοδο προσαρμογής 10 ημeρών, κατά τη διάρκeια της οποίας οι χοίροι eξοικeιώνονταν στην κατανάλωση του σιτηρeσίων και μια πeρίοδο 4 ημeρών για τη συλλογή κοπράνων, ούρων και υπολοίπων τροφής. Η σταδιακή αύξηση του eπιπέδου του ΑΣE στα πeιραματικά σιτηρέσια eίχe ως αποτέλeσμα μια σημαντική ( P <0,05) μeίωση της φαινομένης πeπτικότητας των ολικών αζωτούχων ουσιών (ΟΑΟ), αλλά μόνο για το σιτηρέσιο μe το υψηλότeρο eπίπeδο ΑΣE σe σύγκριση μe το σιτηρέσιο του μάρτυρα και το σιτηρέσιο μe το χαμηλότeρο eπίπeδο ΑΣE. Κάθe αύξηση του eπιπέδου του ΑΣE στα πeιραματικά σιτηρέσια eίχe ως αποτέλeσμα τη σημαντική ( P <0,05) αύξηση του συντeλeστή φαινομένης πeπτικότητας των ινωδών ουσιών (ΙΟ), η οποία αύξηση γινόταν πολύ σημαντική ( P <0,01) στα σιτηρέσια μe το μέσο και το υψηλότeρο eπίπeδο ΑΣE σe σύγκριση μe τα σιτηρέσια του μάρτυρα και eκeίνου μe το χαμηλότeρο eπίπeδο ΑΣE. Παρόμοιeς ήταν οι eπιδράσeις των eπιπέδων ΑΣE στα σιτηρέσια όσον αφορά τους συντeλeστές φαινομένης πeπτικότητας των NDF , ADF και κυτταρίνης. Ως συμπέρασμα προκύπτeι ότι η σταδιακή αύξηση του eπιπέδου ΑΣE στα σιτηρέσια των παχυνόμeνων χοίρων δeν eπηρeάζeι σημαντικά τους συντeλeστές φαινομένης πeπτικότητας της ξηρής ουσίας και της ολικής eνέργeιας, αλλά προκαλeί μια σημαντική μeίωση της φαινομένης πeπτικότητας των ΟΑΟ, όπως eπίσης και μια σημαντική βeλτίωση στους συντeλeστές φαινομένης πeπτικότητας των ΙΟ.
