TL;DR: The structural and electronic properties of the alizarin dye supported on TiO2 nanoclusters have been examined by means of time-dependent density-functional (TD-DFT) calculations and it is found that, as far as the functional and basis set are equivalent, both approaches lead to similar results.
Abstract: The structural and electronic properties of the alizarin dye supported on TiO2 nanoclusters have been examined by means of time-dependent density-functional (TD-DFT) calculations performed in the time-domain framework. The calculated electronic absorption spectrum of free alizarin shows a first band centered at 2.67 eV that upon adsorption features a red shift by 0.31 eV, in agreement with both experimental and previous theoretical work. This red shift arises from a relative stabilization of the dye LUMO when adsorbed. To analyze the dependence of the electronic properties of the dye-support couple on the size of metal-oxide nanoparticles, different models of (TiO2)n nanoclusters have been used (with n = 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 15, and 38). As a conclusion, the minimal model is good enough to theoretically reproduce the main feature in the spectrum (i.e., the energy shift of the main band upon binding to TiO2). However, it fails in creating intermediate states which could play a significant role under real experim...

TL;DR: In this paper, it was demonstrated that the resonant frequency of split ring resonators (SRRs) can be tuned using varactor diodes and the resulting particle, which is called a varactor-loaded split-ring resonator (VLSRR), is applied to the design of a tunable notch filter at S-band.
Abstract: It is demonstrated that the resonant frequency of split ring resonators (SRRs) can be tuned using varactor diodes. The resulting particle, which is called a varactor-loaded split ring resonator (VLSRR), is applied to the design of a tunable notch filter at S-band. The device consists on a microstrip transmission line with VLSRRs placed at both sides of the conductor strip. Owing to the proximity of the particles to the line the rings are excited and a transmission notch arises. It is shown that simply using two VLSRRs pairs, rejection levels above 20 dB are achieved in a 0.5 GHz tuning interval centred at 2.85 GHz. The proposed device is the first tunable notch filter based on SRRs.

TL;DR: This paper analyses the state-of-the-art of several object-detection systems combined with various feature extractors previously developed by their corresponding authors, finding that Faster R-CNN Inception Resnet V2 obtains the best mAP, while R-FCN Resnet 101 strikes the best trade-off between accuracy and execution time.

TL;DR: Results show that naringin has a 'cytoprotective' effect against ethanol injury in the rat, but this property appears to be mediated by non-prostaglandin-dependent mechanisms.
Abstract: This study was designed to determine the gastroprotective properties of naringin on and the involvement of endogenous prostaglandins in mucosal injury produced by absolute ethanol. Oral pretreatment w

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors performed descriptive, sequential and principal components analyses to detect the overall structure of mouse behaviour on the elevated plus-maze test and found that sniffing is the main pattern, pSAP and pDip are highly linked 'anxiety-related' responses, and uSAP is an 'approach-avoid conflict' response usually followed by either sniffing on an open arm or closed arm entry.
