Guidelines for the Management of Rheumatoid Arthritis 2002 Update

TLDR
The guideline reviewed in this month's column describes the recommended care of patients who have been previously diagnosed with RA.
Abstract
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a progressive polyarthritis that is responsible for over nine million office visits annually. It is likely that most nurse practitioners will care for one or more patients with RA because approximately 1% of the adult population is affected by this disabling disorder. The guideline reviewed in this month's column describes the recommended care of patients who have been previously diagnosed with RA.

Application of explicit process of care measurement to rheumatoid arthritis: Moving from evidence to practice.

TL;DR: In this paper, a prospective cohort study of change in disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARD) and/or systemic corticosteroid drug or dose for 568 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) across 6,159 clinical encounters within 12 months to examine how changes in clinical specifications change adherence.

Pharmacokinetics and efficacy of low-dose methotrexate in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the relationship between the pharmacokinetics of methotrexate (MTX), its efficacy in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and serum folic acid (FA) levels.

Are better endpoints and better design of clinical trials needed

TL;DR: An ideal endpoint for trials in rheumatic diseases may be a marker that continually follows short-term changes in the disease process, which would be useful as an endpoint in trials and for supporting treatment decisions in clinical practice.

Serum levels of anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies are associated with a beneficial response to traditional herbal medicine (Kampo) in rheumatoid arthritis.

TL;DR: It is suggested that pretreatment serum levels of ACPA are a useful predictor of a good response to treatment with KER, and a decrease in serum levelsof ACPA may be an adjunctive indicator in predicting the efficacy of this kind of treatment.

Efficacy of High‐Throughput Leukocytapheresis for Rheumatoid Arthritis With a Reduced Response to Infliximab

TL;DR: Results indicate that LCAP is a useful treatment for RA patients with a reduced response to INF, and all patients had a moderate response according to the European League Against Rheumatism response criteria.

Measurement of patient outcome in arthritis.

TL;DR: A structure for representation of patient outcome is presented, together with a method for outcome measurement and validation of the technique in rheumatoid arthritis, and these techniques appear extremely useful for evaluation of long term outcome of patients with rheumatic diseases.
