Guidelines for the Management of Rheumatoid Arthritis 2002 Update

TLDR
The guideline reviewed in this month's column describes the recommended care of patients who have been previously diagnosed with RA.
Abstract
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a progressive polyarthritis that is responsible for over nine million office visits annually. It is likely that most nurse practitioners will care for one or more patients with RA because approximately 1% of the adult population is affected by this disabling disorder. The guideline reviewed in this month's column describes the recommended care of patients who have been previously diagnosed with RA.

Adherence to disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: a narrative review of the literature.

TL;DR: Findings from available research about medication adherence to disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) in the population with rheumatoid arthritis are synthesized to develop a comprehensive, theoretically based understanding of medication adherence in RA patients.

Linkage of Periodontitis and Rheumatoid Arthritis: Current Evidence and Potential Biological Interactions.

TL;DR: An overview of the relationship between rheumatoid arthritis and periodontal disease is provided, exploring the similarities in the immune-pathological aspects and the possible mechanisms linking the development and progression of both diseases.

Rodent Preclinical Models for Developing Novel Antiarthritic Molecules: Comparative Biology and Preferred Methods for Evaluating Efficacy

Exercises to improve function of the rheumatoid hand (SARAH): a randomised controlled trial

TL;DR: It is shown that a tailored hand exercise programme is a worthwhile, low-cost intervention to provide as an adjunct to various drug regimens and Maximisation of the benefits of biological and DMARD regimens in terms of function, disability, and health-related quality of life should be an important treatment aim.

Measurement of patient outcome in arthritis.

TL;DR: A structure for representation of patient outcome is presented, together with a method for outcome measurement and validation of the technique in rheumatoid arthritis, and these techniques appear extremely useful for evaluation of long term outcome of patients with rheumatic diseases.
