Abstract
This report describes an enhanced test system (RTS-96) for use in bulk power system reliability evaluation studies. The value of the test system is that it will permit comparative and benchmark studies to be performed on new and existing reliability evaluation techniques. The test system was developed by modifying and updating the original IEEE RTS (referred to as RTS-79 hereafter) to reflect changes in evaluation methodologies and to overcome perceived deficiencies.

Near-Optimal Method for Siting and Sizing of Distributed Storage in a Transmission Network

TL;DR: In this paper, a three-stage planning procedure is described to identify the optimal locations and parameters of distributed storage units, and the optimal operation of the storage units is simulated to quantify the benefits that they would provide by reducing congestion.

DG allocation for benefit maximization in distribution networks

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a method to evaluate the worth of installing renewable distributed generation (DG) in distribution networks, and the work optimally allocates these DG units in the distribution network to maximize the value of the connection to the local distribution company (LDC), as well as the customers connected to the system.

EPSO-evolutionary particle swarm optimization, a new algorithm with applications in power systems

TL;DR: The fundamentals of the method are described, and an application to the problem of loss minimization and voltage control is presented, with very good results.

Robust Transmission Network Expansion Planning With Uncertain Renewable Generation and Loads

TL;DR: In this article, a robust optimization approach for transmission network expansion planning (TNEP) under uncertainties of renewable generation and load is presented. But this approach does not require knowledge of the probability distribution of the uncertain net injections; rather the uncertainties of the net injections are specified by a simple uncertainty set.
