Abstract
This report describes an enhanced test system (RTS-96) for use in bulk power system reliability evaluation studies. The value of the test system is that it will permit comparative and benchmark studies to be performed on new and existing reliability evaluation techniques. The test system was developed by modifying and updating the original IEEE RTS (referred to as RTS-79 hereafter) to reflect changes in evaluation methodologies and to overcome perceived deficiencies.

Impact of Wind-Based Distributed Generation on Electric Energy in Distribution Systems Embedded With Electric Vehicles

TL;DR: In this paper, the synergy between wind-based distributed generation (DG) and plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) is studied, where Monte Carlo is used to address the uncertainties associated with wind speed variations and charging of PEVs hence simulating their impact at the distribution system (DS) level considering different DG penetration and different PEV penetration.

Security-Constrained Unit Commitment With Uncertain Wind Generation: The Loadability Set Approach

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a novel approach to the security-constrained unit commitment (SCUC) with uncertain wind power generation, which is called reduced SCUC or R-SCUC and is based on the notion of loadability set.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chance-Constrained Unit Commitment With N-1 Security and Wind Uncertainty

TL;DR: An N-1 security and chance-constrained unit commitment (SCCUC) that includes models of generation reserves that respond to wind fluctuations and component outages is presented and a modified Benders decomposition algorithm is developed to solve the problem to optimality.

The value of stochastic programming in day-ahead and intra-day generation unit commitment

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compare two-stage and multi-stage stochastic models to deterministic ones and quantify their added value in the context of day-ahead and intra-day unit commitment under wind uncertainty.

Space-time wind speed forecasting for improved power system dispatch

TL;DR: A modified regime-switching, space-time wind speed forecasting model is proposed that allows the forecast regimes to vary with the dominant wind direction and with the seasons, hence avoiding a subjective choice of regimes and leading to cost-effective scheduling of system-wide wind generation.

IEEE Reliability Test System

TL;DR: In this article, a load model, generation system, and transmission network which can be used to test or compare methods for reliability analysis of power systems is described. But the authors focus on the reliability of the power system and do not consider the transmission system.

The IEEE Reliability Test System - Extensions to and Evaluation of the Generating System

TL;DR: The RTS is extended by including more factors and system conditions which may be included in the reliability evaluation of generating systems to create a wider set of consistent data.

Effect of Station Originated Outages in a Composite System Adequacy Evaluation of the IEEE Reliability Test System

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of terminal stations in composite system reliability evaluation by using the IEEE Reliability Test System (RTS) are discussed. But the authors do not consider the impact of station originated outages on the composite system adequacy indices.

A comprehensive approach for adequacy and security evaluation of bulk power systems

TL;DR: In this paper, a new approach is described for assessing the adequacy and security of bulk power systems, which takes into account generation and transmission failures, load variation, generation economic dispatch, security limits, maintenance schedules, the control actions implemented in emergencies.

Incorporation of a DC-link in a composite system adequacy assessment-composite system analysis

TL;DR: In this paper, the IEEE Reliability Test System (RTS) is augmented by adding a direct current (DC) link and is used as the test system for adequacy evaluation of a composite generation and transmission system.
