Abstract
This report describes an enhanced test system (RTS-96) for use in bulk power system reliability evaluation studies. The value of the test system is that it will permit comparative and benchmark studies to be performed on new and existing reliability evaluation techniques. The test system was developed by modifying and updating the original IEEE RTS (referred to as RTS-79 hereafter) to reflect changes in evaluation methodologies and to overcome perceived deficiencies.

Assessing the contribution of nightly rechargeable grid-scale storage to generation capacity adequacy

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the contribution of grid-scale storage to generation capacity adequacy and showed that for such stores, the central control assumption does not imply loss of generality for the results.

Bilevel transmission expansion planning using second-order cone programming considering wind investment

TL;DR: A new framework for bi-level multi-stage transmission expansion planning (TEP) considering wind investment and the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker optimality conditions are employed in order to convert the bi- level problem into a single-level problem.

Developing a multi-objective framework for expansion planning studies of distributed energy storage systems (DESSs)

TL;DR: All the crucial aspects of the DESSs expansion problem are treated via a well-organized posteriori multi-objective (MO) optimization algorithm, i.e. the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II).

Optimal Transmission Line Switching Under Geomagnetic Disturbances

TL;DR: This work develops a model of GIC impacts to power systems that includes 1) GIC thermal capacity of transformers as a function of normal alternating current (AC), and 2) reactive power losses as afunction of G IC and employs state-of-the-art convex relaxations of AC power flow equations to lower bound the objective.

Effect of Station Originated Outages in a Composite System Adequacy Evaluation of the IEEE Reliability Test System

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of terminal stations in composite system reliability evaluation by using the IEEE Reliability Test System (RTS) are discussed. But the authors do not consider the impact of station originated outages on the composite system adequacy indices.
