Abstract
This report describes an enhanced test system (RTS-96) for use in bulk power system reliability evaluation studies. The value of the test system is that it will permit comparative and benchmark studies to be performed on new and existing reliability evaluation techniques. The test system was developed by modifying and updating the original IEEE RTS (referred to as RTS-79 hereafter) to reflect changes in evaluation methodologies and to overcome perceived deficiencies.

On the solution of the bilevel programming formulation of the terrorist threat problem

TL;DR: This paper generalizes the "terrorist threat problem" first defined by Salmero/spl acute/n, Wood, and Baldick by formulating it as a bilevel programming problem, and converts it into an equivalent single-level mixed-integer linear program by replacing the inner optimization by its Karush-Kuhn-Tucker optimality conditions.

Market-clearing with stochastic security-part II: case studies

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the market clearing formulation with stochastic security developed in its companion paper through two case studies solved using mixed-integer linear programming techniques, and assessed the nodal prices of energy and security under various conditions such as a) line flow limits, b) when nonspinning reserve is excluded from the formulation, c) demand-side valuation of energy not served, d) generator ramping limits, and e) the set of pre-selected contingencies.

Multi-Attribute Partitioning of Power Networks Based on Electrical Distance

TL;DR: Application of the method to the IEEE 118-bus and a 2383-bus case indicates that when a network is well partitioned into zones, intra-zone transactions have less impact on power flows outside of the zone; i.e., good partitioning reduces loop flows.

Bidding strategies for electricity producers in a competitive electricity marketplace

TL;DR: In this paper, the problem is modeled as a two-level optimization problem where, at the first level, a market participant tries to maximize his expected profit under the constraint that an independent system operator dispatches power solving an optimal power flow problem that minimizes total system cost.

Adequacy Evaluation of Distribution System Including Wind/Solar DG During Different Modes of Operation

TL;DR: In this article, Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) and analytical technique are used in this work with a novel utilization of the clearness index probability density function (pdf) to model the solar irradiance using MCS.

IEEE Reliability Test System

TL;DR: In this article, a load model, generation system, and transmission network which can be used to test or compare methods for reliability analysis of power systems is described. But the authors focus on the reliability of the power system and do not consider the transmission system.

The IEEE Reliability Test System - Extensions to and Evaluation of the Generating System

TL;DR: The RTS is extended by including more factors and system conditions which may be included in the reliability evaluation of generating systems to create a wider set of consistent data.

Effect of Station Originated Outages in a Composite System Adequacy Evaluation of the IEEE Reliability Test System

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of terminal stations in composite system reliability evaluation by using the IEEE Reliability Test System (RTS) are discussed. But the authors do not consider the impact of station originated outages on the composite system adequacy indices.

A comprehensive approach for adequacy and security evaluation of bulk power systems

TL;DR: In this paper, a new approach is described for assessing the adequacy and security of bulk power systems, which takes into account generation and transmission failures, load variation, generation economic dispatch, security limits, maintenance schedules, the control actions implemented in emergencies.

Incorporation of a DC-link in a composite system adequacy assessment-composite system analysis

TL;DR: In this paper, the IEEE Reliability Test System (RTS) is augmented by adding a direct current (DC) link and is used as the test system for adequacy evaluation of a composite generation and transmission system.
