TL;DR: This study provides new information on genetic associations and demonstrates that genetic liability for major depression increases risk for suicide attempt across psychiatric disorders.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic studies of major depressive disorder: why are there no genome-wide association study findings and what can we do about it?
Douglas F. Levinson,Sara Mostafavi,Yuri Milaneschi,Margarita Rivera,Stephan Ripke,Naomi R. Wray,Patrick F. Sullivan +6 more
TL;DR: Why progress has been so difficult for major depressive disorder and how to do better are commented on.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that using additional phenotype data previously collected by genetic studies to tackle phenotypic heterogeneity in MDD can successfully lead to the discovery of genetic risk factor despite reduced sample size.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: Using a mouse model of extremes in trait anxiety, it is shown that anxiety-related behavior was positively correlated with Tmem132d mRNA expression in the anterior cingulate cortex, central to the processing of anxiety/fear-related stimuli, and that in this animal model a T Mem132d SNP is associated with anxiety- related behavior in an F2 panel.

TL;DR: In the largest genome-wide association study of PTSD to date, involving a US military sample, limited evidence of association for specific loci was found and no significant genetic correlations were observed between PTSD and 6 mental disorders or 9 immune-related disorders.
