TL;DR: In this article, the influence of the nature of carbon nanotubes on the fire behavior of the composites, especially previous MWNTs crushing proved to substantially delay the TTI while maintaining much reduced heat release rate (HRR).
Abstract: Nanocomposites based on an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (27 wt.-% vinyl acetate) and multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) have been prepared by melt blending and their thermal degradation and flame retardant properties have been evaluated. Special attention has been paid to the influence of the nanotube nature on the flammability properties and more particularly on the time to ignition (TTI) as measured by cone calorimetry. It has been shown that there is a strong influence of the nature of carbon nanotubes on the fire behaviour of the composites, especially previous MWNTs crushing proved to substantially delay the TTI while maintaining much reduced heat release rate (HRR). Such a remarkable behaviour might be explained by the chemical reactivity of radical species present at the surface/extremities of crushed MWNTs during the combustion process.

TL;DR: It was found that the mixing of the two fluids is exothermal and the proton spectra indicate though that [C2mim][OAc] and water are interacting without the formation of new compounds.
Abstract: Mixtures of 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium acetate ([C2mim][OAc]) and water across the entire composition range, from pure [C2mim][OAc] to pure water, have been investigated using density, viscosity, and NMR spectroscopy, relaxometry, and diffusion measurements. These results have been compared to ideal mixing laws for the microscopic data obtained from the NMR results and macroscopic data through the viscosity and density. It was also found that the mixing of the two fluids is exothermal. The proton spectra indicate though that [C2mim][OAc] and water are interacting without the formation of new compounds. The maximal deviations of experimental data from theoretical mixing rules were all found to occur within the range 0.74 ± 0.06 mol fraction of water, corresponding to approximately three water molecules per [C2mim][OAc] molecule.

TL;DR: Fade is a vehicle detection and tracking system featuring monocular color vision and radar data fusion and generates a belief network organized in three layers: sources, position proposals, and correlation between proposals.
Abstract: This paper presents Fade, a vehicle detection and tracking system featuring monocular color vision and radar data fusion. Its main originality resides in its low-level fusion system. At each step and for each target, the fusion system fuses the results of four different image processing algorithms and radar information by automatically combining 12 different features and generating many possible target position proposals. It generates a belief network organized in three layers: sources, position proposals, and correlation between proposals. An inference algorithm is then used to find out the actual position of the target, by deducing which observations are wrong. The overall system runs in real time and has been evaluated on a variety of scenarios recorded in a real car using /sup RT/Maps. Fade yields very good detection results in most cases.
