Abstract: Soil microbial communities under three agricultural management systems (conventionally tilled cropland, hayed pasture, and grazed pasture) and two fertilizer systems (inorganic fertilizer and poultry litter) were compared to that of a w150-y-old forest near Watkinsville, Georgia. Both 16S rRNA gene clone libraries and phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) analyses indicated that the structure and composition of bacterial communities in the forest soil were significantly different than in the agricultural soils. Within the agricultural soils, the effect of fertilizer amendment on bacterial communities was more dramatic than either land use or season. Fertilizer amendment altered the abundance of more bacterial groups throughout the agricultural soils. In addition, the changes in the composition of bacterial groups were more pronounced in cropland than in pastures. There was much less seasonal variation between the soil libraries. Community-level differences were associated with differences in soil pH, mineralizable carbon and nitrogen, and extractable nutrients. Bacterial community diversity exhibited a complex relationship with the land use intensity in these agro-ecosystems. The pastures had the highest bacterial diversity and could be characterized as having an intermediate degree of intervention compared to low intervention in forest and high intervention in cropland. Changes in bacterial diversity could be attributed to the abundance of a few operational taxonomic units (OTUs). The microdiversity of abundant OTUs in both forest and cropland was consistent with an increase in abundance of many phenotypically similar species rather than a single species for each OTU. Soil microbial communities were significantly altered by long-term agricultural management systems, especially fertilizer amendment, and these results provide a basis for promoting conservation agricultural systems.

Abstract: In this paper, collaborative representation is proposed for anomaly detection in hyperspectral imagery. The algorithm is directly based on the concept that each pixel in background can be approximately represented by its spatial neighborhoods, while anomalies cannot. The representation is assumed to be the linear combination of neighboring pixels, and the collaboration of representation is reinforced by l 2 -norm minimization of the representation weight vector. To adjust the contribution of each neighboring pixel, a distance-weighted regularization matrix is included in the optimization problem, which has a simple and closed-form solution. By imposing the sum-to-one constraint to the weight vector, the stability of the solution can be enhanced. The major advantage of the proposed algorithm is the capability of adaptively modeling the background even when anomalous pixels are involved. A kernel extension of the proposed approach is also studied. Experimental results indicate that our proposed detector may outperform the traditional detection methods such as the classic Reed-Xiaoli (RX) algorithm, the kernel RX algorithm, and the state-of-the-art robust principal component analysis based and sparse-representation-based anomaly detectors, with low computational cost.

A channel dependency graph is taken as the definition of what connections are possible, and any routing function must use only those connections defined by it. Virtual interconnection networks allowing adaptive, deadlock-free routing are examined for three k-ary n-cube topologies: unidirectional, torus-connected bidirectional, and mesh-connected bidirectional. >

Abstract: The Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO) has triggered on 1637 cosmic gamma-ray bursts between 1991 April 19 and 1996 August 29. These events constitute the Fourth BATSE burst catalog. The current version (4Br) has been revised from the version first circulated on CD-ROM in 1997 September (4B) to include improved locations for a subset of bursts that have been reprocessed using additional data. A significant difference from previous BATSE catalogs is the inclusion of bursts from periods when the trigger energy range differed from the nominal 50-300 keV. We present tables of the burst occurrence times, locations, peak fluxes, fluences, and durations. In general, results from previous BATSE catalogs are confirmed here with greater statistical significance.
