TL;DR: MDD seems to be associated with global HcV atrophy, and larger longitudinal follow-up studies designed to analyze the influence of sociodemographic variables on this relationship are required to yield better evidence.
Abstract: Introduction: Major depressive disorder (MDD), an incapacitating mental disorder, is characterized by episodes of at least 2 weeks of apparent changes in mood, cognition, and neurovegetative functions. Many neuroimaging studies using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have examined morphometric changes in patients with MDD, but the results are not conclusive. This study aims to review the literature and perform a meta-analysis on hippocampal volume (HcV) in patients with MDD. Methods: Studies on HcV in patients with MDD diagnosis were identified from major databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE, The Cochrane Library, Scopus, PsycINFO, and SciELO) using the search terms depression, major depressive disorder, MDD, unipolar, magnetic resonance imaging, MRI, and hippocampus. Results: A meta-analysis of 29 studies fulfilling specific criteria was performed. The sample included 1327 patients and 1004 healthy participants. The studies were highly heterogeneous with respect to age, sex, age of onset, and average illness duration. However, the pooled effect size of depression was significant in both hippocampi. MDD was associated with right (-0.43; 95% confidence interval [95%CI] −0.66 to −0.21) and left (-0.40; 95%CI −0.66 to −0.15) hippocampal atrophy. Conclusions: MDD seems to be associated with global HcV atrophy. Larger longitudinal follow-up studies designed to analyze the influence of sociodemographic variables on this relationship are required to yield better evidence about this topic.

TL;DR: Central obesity is a better discriminator than general obesity of autonomic cardiac dysfunction in obese normotensive adolescents.
Abstract: OBJECTIVE: To analyze the relationship between the heart rate variability parameters and the indicators of central and general obesity in obese normotensive adolescents. METHODS: Seventyfour 13 to 18 year-old obese normotensive adolescents participated in this study. The indicators analyzed for central and general obesity were waist circumference and body mass index, respectively. Heart rate variability was obtained by heart rate monitoring. For this, the adolescents remained in a supine position for 7 minutes with controlled breathing. Parameters were obtained in time domain (standard deviation of all the RR intervals, root mean square of successive differences between the normal adjacent RR intervals and the percentage of adjacent intervals with more than 50ms) and frequency domain variables (low and high frequency bands and the sympathovagal balance). RESULTS: After adjustments for gender, age, and cardiorespiratory fitness, a negative correlation between the waist circumference and the root mean square of successive differences between the normal adjacent RR intervals (s=-1.51; standard error=0.56; p 0.05). CONCLUSION: Central obesity is a better discriminator than general obesity of autonomic cardiac dysfunction in obese normotensive adolescents.

TL;DR: Both the instability caused by a lack of family unity and the use of drugs significantly affect family functioning and may give rise to conflict and domestic violence.

29 Nov 2011TL;DR: The Cloud Modeling Language (CloudML) is introduced, a vendor-neutral XML-based language intended to integrate the description of different cloud related aspects such as computational and network resources, services profiles, and developers' requests in an integrated way.
Abstract: Distributed Clouds, or just D-Clouds, can be seen as a paradigm that is able to exploit the potential of sharing resources across geographic boundaries and provide latency-bound allocation of resources to third-party developers. The representation of D-Cloud resources is a challenge that involves the careful choice of characteristics that drive the mapping of requests on the substrate resources. Regarding these problems, this paper introduces the Cloud Modeling Language (CloudML), a vendor-neutral XML-based language intended to integrate the description of different cloud related aspects such as computational and network resources, services profiles, and developers' requests in an integrated way. Furthermore, the CloudML provides a way to describe geographical location aware services, seen particularly indispensable in D-Cloud scenarios.

TL;DR: In this article, a coorte transversal study of colorectal cancerous neoplasias is presented, where the authors compare the incidencia of tumores odontogenicos in determinada instituicao and comparar with outros estudos da literatura worldial.
RESULTADOS: Os tumores odontogenicos constituiram 4,76% dentre todas as lesoes biopsiadas dentro do periodo estudado.
