TL;DR: Finite element exterior calculus as mentioned in this paper is an approach to the design and understand- ing of finite element discretizations for a wide variety of systems of partial differential equations, which brings to bear tools from differential geometry, algebraic topology, and homological algebra to develop discretiza- tions which are compatible with the geometric, topological and algebraic structures which underlie well-posedness of the PDE problem being solved.
Abstract: Finite element exterior calculus is an approach to the design and understand- ing of finite element discretizations for a wide variety of systems of partial differential equations. This approach brings to bear tools from differential geometry, algebraic topology, and homological algebra to develop discretiza- tions which are compatible with the geometric, topological, and algebraic structures which underlie well-posedness of the PDE problem being solved. In the finite element exterior calculus, many finite element spaces are re- vealed as spaces of piecewise polynomial differential forms. These connect to each other in discrete subcomplexes of elliptic differential complexes, and are also related to the continuous elliptic complex through projections which commute with the complex differential. Applications are made to the finite element discretization of a variety of problems, including the Hodge Lapla- cian, Maxwell's equations, the equations of elasticity, and elliptic eigenvalue problems, and also to preconditioners.

TL;DR: The MPRAGE sequence was modified to generate two different images at different inversion times, MP2RAGE, to create T(1)-weighted images where the result image was free of proton density contrast, T(2) contrast, reception bias field, and, to first order, transmit field inhomogeneity.

TL;DR: The predictive success of grading suggests that prostate cancers have more or less fixed degrees of malignancy and growth rates (a hypothesis of "biologic determinism") rather than a steady increase inmalignancy with time.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the impact of foreignness on the survival of interbank currency trading worldwide over the period 1974-93 and developed hypotheses on the behavior of the liability over time and on the consequences of evolving sources of firm-level competitive advantage on this liability.
Abstract: We study the impact of ‘foreignness’ on survival in interbank currency trading worldwide over the period 1974–93. In particular, we develop hypotheses on the behavior of the liability of foreignness over time, and on the consequences of evolving sources of firm-level competitive advantage on this liability. We test these hypotheses on the population of 2667 market-making trading rooms located in 47 countries worldwide that either existed in 1974 or entered the industry between 1974 and 1993. The results show that there is a liability of foreignness, and that it changes over time. Further, strategic and organizational factors such as the adoption of technology by these firms and their mode of internal control significantly influenced survival, as did location-related factors such as the intensity of local and foreign competition. © 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
