Abstract: Photocorrosion stable WO3 nanowire arrays are synthesized by a solvothermal technique on fluorine-doped tin oxide coated glass. WO3 morphologies of hexagonal and monoclinic structure, ranging from nanowire to nanoflake arrays, are tailored by adjusting solution composition with growth along the (001) direction. Photoelectrochemical measurements of illustrative films show incident photon-to-current conversion efficiencies higher than 60% at 400 nm with a photocurrent of 1.43 mA/cm2 under AM 1.5G illumination. Our solvothermal film growth technique offers an exciting opportunity for growth of one-dimensional metal oxide nanostructures with practical application in photoelectrochemical energy conversion.

Abstract: In this letter a new chaotic system is discussed. Some basic dynamical properties, such as Lyapunov exponents, Poincare mapping, fractal dimension, continuous spectrum and chaotic behaviors of this new butterfly attractor are studied. Furthermore, the forming mechanism of its compound structure obtained by merging together two simple attractors after performing one mirror operation has been investigated by detailed numerical as well as theoretical analysis.

Abstract: Objectives. The migration of working-age adults from rural to urban China has altered traditional patterns of living arrangements and intergenerational support among elderly persons who remain in rural regions. This investigation examined how household composition and support exchanges with adult children influenced the psychological well-being of older parents in rural China. Methods. Data derived from a 2001 survey of 1,561 parents aged 60 and older living in rural Anhui Province, China. We used multiple regression in order to estimate the effects of multigenerational living arrangements and intergenerational transfers of financial, instrumental, and emotional support on depression and life satisfaction in older parents. Results. Older parents living in three-generation households or with grandchildren in skipped-generation households had better psychological well-being than those living in single-generation households. Receiving greater remittances from adult children increased well-being and explained why living with grandchildren was beneficial. Stronger emotional cohesion with children also improved well-being. Discussion. These results suggest that traditional family arrangements are beneficial in rural Chinese society as they represent the fulfillment of a cultural ideal. We discuss implications in the context of the corporate Chinese family, characterized by mutual aid and interdependence across generations, and its adaption to social change.

Abstract: Blind image quality assessment (BIQA) aims to evaluate the perceptual quality of a distorted image without information regarding its reference image. Existing BIQA models usually predict the image quality by analyzing the image statistics in some transformed domain, e.g., in the discrete cosine transform domain or wavelet domain. Though great progress has been made in recent years, BIQA is still a very challenging task due to the lack of a reference image. Considering that image local contrast features convey important structural information that is closely related to image perceptual quality, we propose a novel BIQA model that utilizes the joint statistics of two types of commonly used local contrast features: 1) the gradient magnitude (GM) map and 2) the Laplacian of Gaussian (LOG) response. We employ an adaptive procedure to jointly normalize the GM and LOG features, and show that the joint statistics of normalized GM and LOG features have desirable properties for the BIQA task. The proposed model is extensively evaluated on three large-scale benchmark databases, and shown to deliver highly competitive performance with state-of-the-art BIQA models, as well as with some well-known full reference image quality assessment models.
