This work has defined the 13 bp palindrome GGTCACAGTGACC as a minimal functional estrogen responsive element (ERE), which binds estrogen receptor preferentially in vitro and point mutations within the ERE decrease its affinity for the estrogen receptor and result in a complete loss of estrogen inducibility.
Abstract
Sequences located upstream of the transcription initiation site of the Xenopus vitellogenin A2 (vit A2) gene contain a hormone dependent enhancer that confers estrogen control to the heterologous thymidine kinase (tk) promoter. As a minimal functional estrogen responsive element (ERE), we have defined the 13 bp palindrome GGTCACAGTGACC. This ERE binds estrogen receptor preferentially in vitro. Although the ERE shares some structural features with the glucocorticoid responsive element (GRE) it is distinct from this element since it neither binds glucocorticoid receptor in vitro nor does it confer glucocorticoid inducibility to a fusion gene. Point mutations within the ERE decrease its affinity for the estrogen receptor and result in a complete loss of estrogen inducibility.

Estrogen receptor variants in early breast disease and breast cancer progression

TL;DR: As a downstream mediator of estrogen action, the ER can have a number of pleiotropic effects on a variety of cell types, and the interaction of these variants with the growing number of regulators of wild-type ER activity are studied in detail may get a clearer picture of the role of variant ERs in breast cancer disease and progression.

Steroid Response Elements. Definition of a Minimal Promoter and Interaction with Other Activating Sequences

TL;DR: Control of gene expression by steroid hormones is exerted mainly by modulation of the transcriptional activity of the regulated genes by binding of the hormone to its specific receptor which attains the capacity to recognize a specific DNA region on regulated genes.

Analysis of genetic variants in the 5’ regulatory region of the ALAS1 gene in South African patients with Variegate Porphyria (VP)

TL;DR: Evidence is provided for a novel mechanism of haeme regulation via ALAS1 in response to estrogen and that ERα is required for the observed enhanced activity.

Механизмы развития и пути преодоления эндокринной резистентности при раке молочной железы Mechanisms of development and the ways to overcome endocrine resistance in breast cancer

TL;DR: About 70% of cases of breast cancer (BC) are hormone-dependent tumors and the main method of treatment of such patients is antiestrogen therapy and possible ways to overcome it are reviewed.
