Proton and carbon-13 nmr spectra of unsonicated lipid bilayers and biological membranes are generally dominated by strong proton–proton and proton–carbon dipolar interactions. As a result the spectra contain a large number of overlapping resonances and are rather difficult to analyse. Nevertheless, important information on the structure and dynamic behaviour of lipid systems has been provided by these techniques (Wennerstrom & Lindblom, 1977).read more

Perturbation effect of local anaesthetics on synaptosomes: variation with depth of the spin label probe.
TL;DR: It follows from the results that the perturbing effects of the anaesthetics increase relative to the depth of the membrane, and the extent of perturbation correlates with local anaesthetic activity.

TL;DR: In this article, the conformational behavior of 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-phosphatidyloligoglycerols (DPPG x ) is studied for the first time by FT-IR spectroscopy in the liquid crystalline and gel state.

Orientational order and rotational diffusion of the head group in the bilayer membrane. A nuclear magnetic resonance study.
TL;DR: It is shown that the temperature dependence of the anisotropic contribution to the chemical shift for 31P can be predicted from that of the deuterium quadrupole splittings.

TL;DR: In this paper, the characteristic nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) properties of the deuterium nucleus are discussed and an overview of various applications to investigate polymer structure and dynamics are presented.

Membrane composition modulates the interaction between a new class of antineoplastic agents deriving from aromatic 2-chloroethylureas and lipid bilayers : a solid-state NMR study
TL;DR: The results indicate that the effects of the CEU derivatives on lipid bilayers are related to their cytotoxic activity and a strong correlation is observed between the drug location in both the mitochondrial inner and outer membranes and its cytotoxicity.

Principles of magnetic resonance
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of changing the precession frequency of the magnetic field has been studied using NMR to study rate properties. But the effect is limited to the case of double and double resonance.
