TLDR
Proton and carbon-13 nmr spectra of unsonicated lipid bilayers and biological membranes are generally dominated by strong proton-proton and proton–carbon dipolar interactions and are rather difficult to analyse.
Abstract
Proton and carbon-13 nmr spectra of unsonicated lipid bilayers and biological membranes are generally dominated by strong proton–proton and proton–carbon dipolar interactions. As a result the spectra contain a large number of overlapping resonances and are rather difficult to analyse. Nevertheless, important information on the structure and dynamic behaviour of lipid systems has been provided by these techniques (Wennerstrom & Lindblom, 1977).

Neutron diffraction studies on phosphatidylcholine model membranes : I. Head group conformation

TL;DR: Neutron diffraction experiments on selectively deuterated lipids provide a new method of determining to a segmental resolution the mean conformation of a lipid molecule as projected along the bilayer normal, despite the high amount of disorder that exists in these bilayers.

Structural order of lipids and proteins in membranes: evaluation of fluorescence anisotropy data

TL;DR: It is concluded that proteins increase the order of the surrounding lipids in off-normal directions with respect to the influence of lipid order on protein order.

Analysis of deuterium nuclear magnetic resonance line shapes in anisotropic media

TL;DR: In this article, the analysis of motional effects on 2H NMR solid state line shapes is described, and several simple models of anisotropic motions in solids are presented from which line shapes and relaxation experiments are calculated.

Lipid Bilayer Pressure Profiles and Mechanosensitive Channel Gating

TL;DR: A simple geometric analysis for the gating of the mechanosensitive channel MscL suggests that pressure profiles affect its gating through the second moment of the profile in a tension-independent manner.
Journal ArticleDOI

Acyl chain order parameter profiles in phospholipid bilayers: computation from molecular dynamics simulations and comparison with 2H NMR experiments.

TL;DR: An overview of the literature in which experimental order parameters from 2H NMR are compared to those calculated from MD simulations is given and a case study of cholesterol in a DMPC bilayer is presented.

Principles of magnetic resonance

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of changing the precession frequency of the magnetic field has been studied using NMR to study rate properties. But the effect is limited to the case of double and double resonance.

Spin Labeling: Theory And Applications

TL;DR: This special topics volume represents a complete update on new theoretical aspects and applications of the spin-label method and includes an IBM-compatible diskette supplied by David Schneider and Jack Freed which contains fast, accurate, ready-to-use software for slow-motion simulations.
