Proton and carbon-13 nmr spectra of unsonicated lipid bilayers and biological membranes are generally dominated by strong proton–proton and proton–carbon dipolar interactions. As a result the spectra contain a large number of overlapping resonances and are rather difficult to analyse. Nevertheless, important information on the structure and dynamic behaviour of lipid systems has been provided by these techniques (Wennerstrom & Lindblom, 1977).read more

TL;DR: It is hypothesize that the dynamic gradient observed in membranes of diester and diether phospholipids is a consequence of natural evolution of membrane lipids in response to the requirement of carrying out complex cellular functions by membrane proteins.

Phase transitions and critical indices of a phospholipid bilayer model
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the Hamiltonian describing this model can be mapped onto an Ising Hamiltonian with a temperature dependent field, and that this field varies linearly with temperature in the critical region.

Membrane NMR: a dyanmic research area
TL;DR: The results of both 2H and 13C NMR investigations suggest that, in addition to rapid local fluctuations of the hydrocarbon chains, slower, more collective motions of the bilayer exist as mentioned in this paper.

TL;DR: In some contrast to the subtle effects of HFP on a host-cell-like membrane composition, an isotropic phase was observed in dispersions rich in phosphatidylethanolamine lipids and with bound HFP.

Principles of magnetic resonance
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of changing the precession frequency of the magnetic field has been studied using NMR to study rate properties. But the effect is limited to the case of double and double resonance.
