The oxysterol–CXCR2 axis plays a key role in the recruitment of tumor-promoting neutrophils
Laura Raccosta,Raffaella Fontana,Daniela Maggioni,Claudia Lanterna,Eduardo J. Villablanca,Aida Paniccia,Andrea Musumeci,Elena Chiricozzi,Maria Letizia Trincavelli,Simona Daniele,Claudia Martini,Jan-Åke Gustafsson,Jan-Åke Gustafsson,Claudio Doglioni,Safiyè Gonzalvo Feo,Andrea Leiva,Maria Grazia Ciampa,Laura Mauri,Cristina Sensi,Alessandro Prinetti,Ivano Eberini,J. Rodrigo Mora,Claudio Bordignon,Claudio Bordignon,Knut R. Steffensen,Sandro Sonnino,Silvano Sozzani,Catia Traversari,Vincenzo Russo +28 more
TL;DR: Tumor-derived oxysterols recruit protumor neutrophils in an LXR-independent, CXCR2-dependent manner, thus favoring tumor growth by promoting neoangiogenesis and immunosuppression.
Journal ArticleDOI
Divergent effects of hypoxia on dendritic cell functions.
Alessandra Mancino,Tiziana Schioppa,Paola Larghi,Fabio Pasqualini,Manuela Nebuloni,I-Hsuan Chen,Silvano Sozzani,Jonathan M. Austyn,Alberto Mantovani,Antonio Sica +9 more
TL;DR: It is shown that oxygen availability is necessary to promote full monocyte-derived DC differentiation and maturation, which uncouples the promotion of inflammatory and tissue repair from sentinel functions in DCs, which is suggested is a safeguard mechanism against immune reactivity to damaged tissues.
Journal Article
Monocytes from Wiskott-Aldrich patients display reduced chemotaxis and lack of cell polarization in response to monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 and formyl-methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine.
Raffaele Badolato,Silvano Sozzani,Fabio Malacarne,S. Bresciani,Maurilia Fiorini,Alessandro Borsatti,Alberto Albertini,Alberto Mantovani,Alberto G. Ugazio,Luigi D. Notarangelo +9 more
TL;DR: Monocytes derived from four patients with molecularly defined typical WAS have a severely impaired migration in response to FMLP and to the chemokines monocyte chemoattractantprotein-1 (MCP-1) and macrophage inflammatory protein-1alpha compared with normal donors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proinflammatory mediators elicit secretion of the intracellular B-lymphocyte stimulator pool (BLyS) that is stored in activated neutrophils: implications for inflammatory diseases.
Patrizia Scapini,Antonio Carletto,Bernardetta Nardelli,Federica Calzetti,Viktor Roschke,Flavia Merigo,Nicola Tamassia,Sara Pieropan,Domenico Biasi,Andrea Sbarbati,Silvano Sozzani,Lisa Maria Bambara,Marco A. Cassatella +12 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that neutrophils migrating into skin window exudates (SWEs) developed in healthy volunteers and in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, synthesized and released BLyS in response to locally produced G-CSF, which is pivotal in greatly amplifying neutrophil-dependentBLyS release in SWEs of patients with RA compared with healthy subjects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Truncation of Macrophage-derived Chemokine by CD26/ Dipeptidyl-Peptidase IV beyond Its Predicted Cleavage Site Affects Chemotactic Activity and CC Chemokine Receptor 4 Interaction
Paul Proost,Sofie Struyf,Dominique Schols,Ghislain Opdenakker,Silvano Sozzani,Paola Allavena,Alberto Mantovani,Koen Augustyns,Gunther Bal,Achiel Haemers,Anne-Marie Lambeir,Simon Scharpé,Jo Van Damme,Ingrid De Meester +13 more
TL;DR: NH2-terminal truncation of MDC by CD26/DPP IV has profound biological consequences and may be an important regulatory mechanism during the migration of Th2 lymphocytes and dendritic cells to germinal centers and to sites of inflammation.
