Abstract: We demonstrate a TWDM-PON prototype system with 40Gb/s downstream and 10Gb/s upstream bandwidth. It supports 20km distance with a 1:512 split ratio. It also coexists with commercially deployed G-PON and XG-PON systems.

Abstract: In this paper, we present an on-line semi-supervised algorithm for real-time separation of speech and background noise. The proposed system is based on Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (NMF), where fixed speech bases are learned from training data whereas the noise components are estimated in real-time on the recent past. Experiments with spontaneous conversational speech and real-life non-stationary noise show that this system performs as well as a supervised NMF algorithm exploiting noise components learned from the same noise environment as the test sample. Furthermore, it outperforms a supervised system trained on different noise conditions.

Abstract: Network Function Virtualization (NFV) is an emerging solution that aims at improving the flexibility, the efficiency and the manageability of networks, by leveraging virtualization and cloud computing technologies to run network appliances in software. Nevertheless, the "notarization" of network functions imposes software reliability concerns on future networks, which will be exposed to software issues arising from virtualization technologies. In this paper, we discuss the challenges for reliability in NFVIs, and present an industrial research project on their reliability assurance, which aims at developing novel fault injection technologies and systematic guidelines for this purpose.

Abstract: Remote authentication has been widely studied and adapted in distributed systems. The security of remote authentication mechanisms mostly relies on one of or the combination of three factors: 1) something users know—password; 2) something users have—smart card; and 3) something users are—biometric characteristics. This paper introduces an efficient generic framework for three-factor authentication. The proposed generic framework enhances the security of existing two-factor authentication schemes by upgrading them to three-factor authentication schemes, without exposing user privacy. In addition, we present a case study by upgrading a secure two-factor authentication scheme to a secure three-factor authentication scheme. Furthermore, implementation analysis, formal proof, and privacy discussion are provided to show that the derived scheme is practical, secure, and privacy preserving.

Abstract: We demonstrate a 56 Gb/s four-level pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM-4) transmission using direct detection and a long-wavelength 18-GHz bandwidth vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser as directly modulated light source for short-reach inter- and intra-connects in datacenters and short-reach networks. Error-free transmission over 2 km at 7% hard-decision forward-error correction threshold is achieved by applying powerful equalization schemes at the receiver side. Three equalization schemes, i.e., a maximum likelihood estimation (MLSE), a feed-forward equalizer (FFE), and a combination of the FFE and the MLSE are thoroughly investigated, and the performance comparison between them is carried out.
