TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a method for issuing paging messages and an MSC/VLR, the method includes: determining types of networks terminating the process, if the MS only accesses a 2G network; issuing, by the MSC or VLR, paging message on an RNC; and terminating process if MS only accessed a 3G network.
Abstract: The embodiments of the present invention disclose a method for issuing paging messages and an MSC/VLR, the method includes: determining types of networks terminating the process, if the MS only accesses a 2G network; issuing, by the MSC/VLR, paging messages on an RNC, and terminating the process, if the MS only accesses a 3G network; and issuing, by the MSC/VLR, paging messages on both the BSC and RNC, if the MS accesses both the 2G network and the 3G network. According to the embodiments of the present invention, the MSC/VLR can choose to issue paging messages on the BSC or the RNC separately or on both the BSC and the RNC, since it can determine the types of networks accessed by the MS. Thus, unnecessary paging messages issued on the BSC same time, a great deal of radio paging channel resources on the BSC or the RNC is saved, which greatly reduces effects on the process of paging other MSs.

TL;DR: The secure wiretap coding, resource allocation, signal processing, and multi-node cooperation, along with physical layer key generation and authentication, are investigated from physical layer perspectives to cope with the emerging security challenges.
Abstract: Heterogeneous Internet of Things (IoT) and multi-access mobile edge computing (MA-MEC) are believed as supporting technologies for building a smart city. The advancement and flourish of IoT are facilitating the entry of human society into the Internet of Everything era, which lay the foundation of the smart city. To address the conflict between computation capability and low-cost mobile devices in IoT, the MA-MEC is available for supporting the resource-limited and computation-sensitive services and applications by computation offloading and distributed content delivery/caching. However, deploying cloud computing capability within the radio access network may face serious security threats, which stem from not only the existing technologies and networks but also the MA-MEC-based IoT itself. Therefore, in this paper, the solutions to address the security threats are investigated from physical layer perspectives, since physical layer security technologies have the advantages of achieving perfect secrecy, low-computational complexity, and resource consumption, and good adaptation for channel changes. Specifically, we investigate the secure wiretap coding, resource allocation, signal processing, and multi-node cooperation, along with physical layer key generation and authentication, to cope with the emerging security challenges. Finally, the paper is concluded with some possible future research directions.

TL;DR: The WikiCoref corpus as discussed by the authors is an English corpus annotated for anaphoric relations, where all documents are from the English version of Wikipedia and annotated each markable with coreference type, mention type and the equivalent Freebase topic.
Abstract: This paper presents WikiCoref, an English corpus annotated for anaphoric relations, where all documents are from the English version of Wikipedia. Our annotation scheme follows the one of OntoNotes with a few disparities. We annotated each markable with coreference type, mention type and the equivalent Freebase topic. Since most similar annotation efforts concentrate on very specific types of written text, mainly newswire, there is a lack of resources for otherwise over-used Wikipedia texts. The corpus described in this paper addresses this issue. We present a freely available resource we initially devised for improving coreference resolution algorithms dedicated to Wikipedia texts. Our corpus has no restriction on the topics of the documents being annotated, and documents of various sizes have been considered for annotation.

TL;DR: The results confirm quantitatively the often stated expectation that there are indeed fewer white spaces available in Europe compared to, for example, the United States.
Abstract: In this paper we study the availability of TV white spaces in Europe. We focus specifically on the 470–790 MHz UHF band that is still predominantly used for TV broadcasting also after the digital dividend (frequency reallocation as part of transition to digital TV), which has taken place or is ongoing in several European countries. We find that in the countries used in our studies, approximately 56% of the TV channels are unused, when averaged over the whole geographic area. Considering the average over population instead of geographic area reduced the mean available white space to 49% of the channels. Our results confirm quantitatively the often stated expectation that there are indeed fewer white spaces available in Europe compared to, for example, the United States. We also study the influence of different modeling assumptions on our results, especially focusing on the impact of the choice of propagation model. Our results show that changing from statistical ITU-R model to the Longley-Rice irregular terrain model does not cause a major change in the overall estimated availability of white spaces. However, changing the propagation model can significantly affect especially the local variability of the estimated availability of spectrum. This underlines the importance of using right system models in various studies before making too far-reaching conclusions.

TL;DR: Inspired by an algorithmic approach for interference alignment, three cooperative algorithms are proposed to find suboptimal solutions for end-to-end sum-rate maximization problem in a multiple-antenna amplify-and-forward (AF) relay interference channel.
Abstract: Interference is a common impairment in wireless communication systems. Multi-hop relay networks use a set of intermediate nodes called relays to facilitate communication between multiple transmitters and multiple receivers through multiple hops. Relay based communication is especially sensitive to interference because the interference impacts both the received signal at the relay, and the received signal at the destination. Interference alignment is a signaling technique that provides high multiplexing gain in the interference channel. In this paper, inspired by an algorithmic approach for interference alignment, three cooperative algorithms are proposed to find suboptimal solutions for end-to-end sum-rate maximization problem in a multiple-antenna amplify-and-forward (AF) relay interference channel. The first algorithm aims at minimizing the sum power of enhanced noise from the relays and interference at the receivers. The second and third algorithms aim at minimizing matrix-weighted sum mean square errors with either equality or inequality power constraints to utilize a connection between mean square error and mutual information. The resulting iterative algorithms are convergent to points that we conjecture to be stationary points of the corresponding problems. Simulations show that the proposed algorithms achieve higher end-to-end sum-rates and multiplexing gains that existing strategies for AF relays, decode-and-forward relays, and direct transmission. The first algorithm outperforms the other algorithms at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) but performs worse than them at low SNR. Thanks to power control, the third algorithm outperforms the second algorithm at the cost of additional overhead.
