TL;DR: The results demonstrate that a joint failure distribution of LED devices could be modeled by simply considering their lumen maintenance and color shift as two independent variables, and the mean time to failure (MTTF) has been obtained, indicating the feasibility of the proposed method.
Abstract: The IES standard TM-21-11 provides a guideline for lifetime prediction of LED devices. As it uses average normalized lumen maintenance data and performs non-linear regression for lifetime modeling, it cannot capture dynamic and random variation of the degradation process of LED devices. In addition, this method cannot capture the failure distribution, although it is much more relevant in reliability analysis. Furthermore, the TM-21-11 only considers lumen maintenance for lifetime prediction. Color shift, as another important performance characteristic of LED devices, may also render significant degradation during service life, even though the lumen maintenance has not reached the critical threshold. In this study, a modified Wiener process has been employed for the modeling of the degradation of LED devices. By using this method, dynamic and random variations, as well as the non-linear degradation behavior of LED devices, can be easily accounted for. With a mild assumption, the parameter estimation accuracy has been improved by including more information into the likelihood function while neglecting the dependency between the random variables. As a consequence, the mean time to failure (MTTF) has been obtained and shows comparable result with IES TM-21-11 predictions, indicating the feasibility of the proposed method. Finally, the cumulative failure distribution was presented corresponding to different combinations of lumen maintenance and color shift. The results demonstrate that a joint failure distribution of LED devices could be modeled by simply considering their lumen maintenance and color shift as two independent variables.

TL;DR: This work proposes a software-defined adaptive transmission control protocol (SATCP) for selecting various transmission control policies to adapt to the time-varying vehicular environment, and forms the optimal transmission control problem, and develops a practical heuristic algorithm for adaptive Transmission control.
Abstract: Efficient transmission control is an intricate issue in vehicular networks due to the inherent topology dynamics and unreliable link conditions. Leveraging flexible management in software-defined vehicular networks, we propose a software-defined adaptive transmission control protocol (SATCP) for selecting various transmission control policies to adapt to the time-varying vehicular environment. We formulate the optimal transmission control problem, and develop a practical heuristic algorithm for adaptive transmission control. NS-3 based preliminary simulations are conducted to verify that SATCP achieves an improvement by 27.8% than TcpHtcp, and by 54.4% than TcpVegas in terms of average network throughput.

TL;DR: Several user scheduling algorithms based on beam aggregation with reasonable amount of feedback are proposed for the sparse user regime and the numerical results show that the proposed algorithms yield very good sum-rate performance in sparse mmWave channels.
Abstract: The performance of random beamforming (RBF) with partial channel state information (CSI) feedback is investigated here for millimeter wave (mmWave) multiuser multiple-input single-output (MU-MISO) downlink systems using the uniform random multipath (UR-MP) channel model. In particular, the required number of users in the cell for RBF to yield linear sum rate scaling with respect to the number of transmit antennas is identified under the UR-MP channel model for different levels of channel sparsity. Then, the problem of user scheduling in MU-MISO downlink is considered when the number of users in the cell is not sufficiently large (sparse user regime) for the system to operate in the identified sufficient user regime. By exploiting the sparsity of mmWave radio channels, several user scheduling algorithms based on beam aggregation with reasonable amount of feedback are proposed for the sparse user regime. Our numerical results show that the proposed algorithms yield very good sum-rate performance in sparse mmWave channels.

TL;DR: The authors proposed an interactive attention mechanism, which models the interaction between the decoder and the representation of source sentence during translation by both reading and writing operations, which can keep track of the interaction history and therefore improve the translation performance.
Abstract: Conventional attention-based Neural Machine Translation (NMT) conducts dynamic alignment in generating the target sentence. By repeatedly reading the representation of source sentence, which keeps fixed after generated by the encoder (Bahdanau et al., 2015), the attention mechanism has greatly enhanced state-of-the-art NMT. In this paper, we propose a new attention mechanism, called INTERACTIVE ATTENTION, which models the interaction between the decoder and the representation of source sentence during translation by both reading and writing operations. INTERACTIVE ATTENTION can keep track of the interaction history and therefore improve the translation performance. Experiments on NIST Chinese-English translation task show that INTERACTIVE ATTENTION can achieve significant improvements over both the previous attention-based NMT baseline and some state-of-the-art variants of attention-based NMT (i.e., coverage models (Tu et al., 2016)). And neural machine translator with our INTERACTIVE ATTENTION can outperform the open source attention-based NMT system Groundhog by 4.22 BLEU points and the open source phrase-based system Moses by 3.94 BLEU points averagely on multiple test sets.

TL;DR: In this paper, a symmetrical phase-locked loop (PLL) is proposed to eliminate the frequency-coupling terms caused by the asymmetric dynamics of conventional PLLs.
Abstract: This paper proposes a symmetrical phase-locked loop (PLL) that can eliminate the frequency-coupling terms caused by the asymmetric dynamics of conventional PLLs. In the approach, a concept of complex phase angle vector with both real and imaginary phase components is introduced, which enables to control the direct- and quadrature-axis components with symmetrical dynamics. The small-signal impedance model that characterizes the dynamic effect of the symmetrical PLL on the current control loop is also derived, which, differing from the conventional multiple-input multiple-output impedance matrix, is in a single-input single-output (SISO) form based on complex transfer functions. This SISO representation allows for a design-oriented analysis. Moreover, the undesired sub-synchronous oscillation caused by the conventional asymmetrical PLL can be avoided, and the classical SISO impedance shaping can be utilized to cancel the negative resistor behavior caused by PLL; thus can greatly enhance the grid synchronization stability under weak grid conditions. The effectiveness of the theoretical analysis is validated by experimental tests.
