TL;DR: In this paper, the socio economic and environmental impact of the Biomass Gasification based Power Plant (BGBPP) in Chottomollakhali islands of Sunderbans set up by WBREDA is evaluated.
Abstract: A continued thrust towards wider use of renewable energy devices at domestic, commercial and industrial levels not only resulted in greater awareness but also significant installed capacities. The energy requirement in India is steadily increasing and this requirement is met both by commercial and renewable energy sources. India being a tropical country, renewable energy is seen as an effective option for ensuring access to modern energy services. So the objective of the present study is to evaluate the socio economic and environmental impact of the Biomass Gasification based Power Plant (BGBPP) in Chottomollakhali islands of Sunderbans set up by West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Authority (WBREDA). Four villages of Chottomollakhali Island are benefited with electricity from the power plant, which serves 225 consumers comprising household, commercial and industrial sectors. A simple cost benefit analysis has been used to estimate the impact of BGBPP. The findings of the study indicate that BGBPP has made a very positive impact on the life of the villagers of Chottomollakhali Island. This has led to increased economic activities and more profitable turnover for the commercial consumers and improves quality of life for the household sector. All of them have showed willingness to pay a higher price to get 24 h of power supply. From the cost benefit analysis it has been found that the benefit cost ratio, internal rate of return and pay back period of the project are 1.68, 19% and 7 years, respectively. But environmental awareness is very poor among the villagers.

TL;DR: This paper reviews the tabu search literature on the TSP and its variations, point out trends in it, and bring out some interesting research gaps in this literature.
Abstract: The Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) and its allied problems like Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) are one of the most widely studied problems in combinatorial optimization. It has long been known to be NP-hard and hence research on developing algorithms for the TSP has focused on approximate methods in addition to exact methods. Tabu search is one of the most widely applied metaheuristic for solving the TSP. In this paper, we review the tabu search literature on the TSP and its variations, point out trends in it, and bring out some interesting research gaps in this literature.

01 Aug 2014TL;DR: It is shown that the release of each phishing alert leads to a statistically significant loss of market capitalization that is at least US$ 411million for a firm, and a theoretical framework for analyzing the impact of threats on firm value is proposed.
Abstract: Phishing is a form of online identity theft that is increasingly becoming a global menace. In this research, we analyze the impact of phishing alerts released in public databases on the market value of global firms. Using a sample of 1942 phishing alerts related to 259 firms in 32 countries, we show that the release of each phishing alert leads to a statistically significant loss of market capitalization that is at least US$ 411million for a firm. We propose a theoretical framework for analyzing the impact of threats on firm value, and determine that the negative investor reaction is strongly significant for alerts released in 2006-2007 and for those targeted to financial holding companies, and weakly significant for firms listed in the US. We derive and validate these results using a combination of event study, subsampling analysis, and cross-sectional regression analysis. Our research makes a contribution by providing a new model for conducting multi-country event studies. We also contribute to the information systems literature by quantifying the loss in market value caused by phishing, and provide compelling evidence to information security administrators of firms that urge them to adopt adequate countermeasures to prevent phishing attacks. We study the impact of release of phishing alerts on firm value. We use a novel asset pricing model for conducting an event study.Phishing alerts negatively impact firm value for global companies.Financial holding companies are strongly affected by release of such alerts.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors study a manufacturer-retailer channel selling complementary green products under the cap-and-trade policy and analyzes strategic decisions in these settings, and show that collaboration among the supply chain players through contracts supports green initiatives vis-a-vis the decentralized channel.
