TL;DR: A CAG trinucleotide repeat with CAA interruptions that was expanded in patients with SCA2, which is a member of a novel gene family and not highly polymorphic in normal individuals is identified.
Abstract: The gene for spinocerebellar ataxia type 2 (SCA2) has been mapped to 12q24.1. A 1.1-megabase contig in the candidate region was assembled in P1 artificial chromosome and bacterial artificial chromosome clones. Using this contig, we identified a CAG trinucleotide repeat with CAA interruptions that was expanded in patients with SCA2. In contrast to other unstable trinucleotide repeats, this CAG repeat was not highly polymorphic in normal individuals. In SCA2 patients, the repeat was perfect and expanded to 36-52 repeats. The most common disease allele contained (CAG)37, one of the shortest expansions seen in a CAG expansion syndrome. The repeat occurs in the 5'-coding region of SCA2 which is a member of a novel gene family.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors take stock of the large body of extant research and provide a systematic assessment of empirical evidence and conclude that a more thorough empirical grounding of the theory's foundation is crucial to its future development, and offer several strategies for doing this.
Abstract: Transaction cost economics (TCE) is one of the leading perspectives in management and organizational studies, yet debate continues regarding its empirical support. In this paper, we take stock of the large body of extant research and provide a systematic assessment of empirical evidence. In all, 308 statistical tests from 63 articles, selected according to a set of clear criteria, were examined across various dimensions. We assess not only the level of empirical support for the theory, but also the degree of paradigm consensus present in the empirical literature. Our analysis shows that results are mixed: while we found support in some areas (e.g., with regard to asset specificity), we also found considerable disagreement on how to operationalize some of TCE's central constructs and propositions, and relatively low levels of empirical support in other core areas (e.g., surrounding uncertainty and performance). We conclude that a more thorough empirical grounding of the theory's foundation is crucial to its future development, and offer several strategies for doing this. TL;DR: The acceptance of a standard classification system will facilitate the study of pancreatic duct lesions, and will lead ultimately to a better understanding of their biologic importance.
Abstract: Proliferative epithelial lesions in the smaller caliber pancreatic ducts and ductules have been the subject of numerous morphologic, clinical, and genetic studies; however, a standard nomenclature and diagnostic criteria for classifying these lesion have not been established.
