Abstract: Existing review-aware recommendation methods represent users (or items) through the concatenation of the reviews written by (or for) them, and depend entirely on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to extract meaningful features for modeling users (or items). However, understanding reviews based only on the raw words of reviews is challenging because of the inherent ambiguity contained in them originated from the users' different tendency in writing. Moreover, it is inefficient in time and memory to model users/items by the concatenation of their associated reviews owing to considerably large inputs to CNNs. In this work, we present a scalable review-aware recommendation method, called SentiRec, that is guided to incorporate the sentiments of reviews when modeling the users and the items. SentiRec is a two-step approach composed of the first step that includes the encoding of each review into a fixed-size review vector that is trained to embody the sentiment of the review, followed by the second step that generates recommendations based on the vector-encoded reviews. Through our experiments, we show that SentiRec not only outperforms the existing review-aware methods, but also drastically reduces the training time and the memory usage. We also conduct a qualitative evaluation on the vector-encoded reviews trained by SentiRec to demonstrate that the overall sentiments are indeed encoded therein.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system for linking a smart TV and a smart phone of a user using an image authentication key capable of registering the smart phone in the smart TV using an authentication key in an image form such as a quick response (QR) code, or the like. The system includes: a service server configured to generate an image authentication key comprising access information, configured to provide the image authentication key to the smart TV, and configured to provide terminal information from a user terminal to the smart TV, to link the smart TV and the user terminal; a terminal access application installed in a smart TV configured to request the image authentication key from the service server, configured to receive the image authentication key, and configured to display the received image authentication key on a screen; and a user terminal configured to scan and analyze the image authentication key displayed on the smart TV, and configured to transmit terminal information to the service server using the access information.

Abstract: This study was conducted to evaluate the promoting effect of Ishige sinicola, an alga native to Jeju Island, Korea, on hair growth. When vibrissa follicles were cultured in the presence of I. sinicola extract for 21 days, I. sinicola extract increased hair-fiber length. After topical application of I. sinicola extract onto the back of C57BL/6 mice, anagen progression of the hair shaft was induced. The I. sinicola extract significantly inhibited the activity of 5α-reductase. Treatment of immortalized vibrissa dermal papilla cells (DPCs) with I. sinicola extract resulted in increase of cell proliferation, which was accompanied by the increase of phospho-GSK3β level, β-catenin, Cyclin E and CDK2, whereas p27kip1 was down-regulated. In particular, octaphlorethol A, an isolated component from the I. sinicola extract, inhibited the activity of 5α-reductase and increased the proliferation of DPCs. These results suggest that I. sinicola extract and octaphlorethol A, a principal of I. sinicola, have the potential to treat alopecia via the proliferation of DPCs followed by the activation of β-catenin pathway, and the 5α-reductase inhibition.

Abstract: The sensing behavior of SnO2-based thick film gas sensors in a flow system in the presence of a very low concentration (ppb level) of chemical agent simulants such as acetonitrile, dipropylene glycol methyl ether (DPGME), dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP), and dichloromethane (DCM) was investigated. Commercial SnO2 [SnO2(C)] and nano-SnO2 prepared by the precipitation method [SnO2(P)] were used to prepare the SnO2 sensor in this study. In the case of DCM and acetonitrile, the SnO2(P) sensor showed higher sensor response as compared with the SnO2(C) sensors. In the case of DMMP and DPGME, however, the SnO2(C) sensor showed higher responses than those of the SnO2(P) sensors. In particular, the response of the SnO2(P) sensor increased as the calcination temperature increased from 400 °C to 800 °C. These results can be explained by the fact that the response of the SnO2-based gas sensor depends on the textural properties of tin oxide and the molecular size of the chemical agent simulant in the detection of the simulant gases (0.1–0.5 ppm).

Abstract: The data explosion and resource scarcity of mobile cellular networks require new paradigms to effectively integrate heterogeneous radio resources. Of many candidate approaches, smart aggregation of LTE and Wi-Fi radios is a promising solution that bonds heterogeneous links to meet a mobile terminal’s bandwidth need. Motivated by the existence of a significant number of carrier operated Wi-Fi APs, we propose an easily deployable mechanism, called LTE-W, which efficiently utilizes LTE and Wi-Fi links only with the minimum change of eNodeBs, LTE backhaul networks, and mobile terminals. LTE-W, which is a link-level aggregation mechanism, has the following two key components: 1) mode selection and 2) bearer-split scheduling. First, in the mode selection, LTE-W internally decides who should be served by either LTE-only or LTE-Wi-Fi aggregation considering intra-cell fairness rather than just following users’ intention of aggregation. For the users’ preference to be offered the aggregation service, we choose a bearer (roughly defined in LTE as a set of flows with a similar QoS) as a basic unit of aggregation and propose a smart intra-bearer scheduling algorithm that splits a bearer’s traffic into LTE and Wi-Fi links, considering the performance of TCP flows that take two heterogeneous wireless links. We evaluate our mechanism using the NS-3 with LENA, under various configurations, including nodes with mobility and HTTP traffic, and compare it with a transport-level aggregation mechanism, multipath TCP (MPTCP), demonstrating that LTE-W significantly improves MPTCP, e.g., up to 75% in terms of Jain’s fairness index.
