TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the overall performance improves as the fairness parameter alpha is reduced, and in particular, that proportional fair scheduling may yield relatively poor performance, in sharp contrast to the standard scenario with only fast fading.
Abstract: The design of scheduling policies for wireless data systems has been driven by a compromise between the objectives of high overall system throughput and the degree of fairness among users, while exploiting multi-user diversity, i.e., fast-fading variations. These policies have been thoroughly investigated in the absence of user mobility, i.e., without slow fading variations. In the present paper, we examine the impact of intra- and inter-cell user mobility on the trade-off between throughput and fairness, and on the suitable choice of alpha-fair scheduling policies. We consider a dynamic setting where users come and go over time as governed by random finite-size data transfers, and explicitly allow for users to roam around. It is demonstrated that the overall performance improves as the fairness parameter alpha is reduced, and in particular, that proportional fair scheduling may yield relatively poor performance, in sharp contrast to the standard scenario with only fast fading. Since a lower alpha tends to affect short-term fairness, we explore how to set the fairness parameter so as to strike the right balance between overall performance and short-term fairness. It is further established that mobility tends to improve the performance, even when the network operates under a local fair scheduling policy as opposed to a globally optimal strategy. We present extensive simulation results to confirm and illustrate the analytical findings.

TL;DR: In this paper, a system, method, device, computer program, user interface, and apparatus to associate an object of interest of a map in a location database with a geo-fence is presented.
Abstract: A system, method, device, computer program, user interface, and apparatus to associate an object of interest of a map in a location database with a geo-fence. The method includes selecting a first time interval; selecting a mode of transportation; determining terrestrial routes starting from the object of interest; for each determined terrestrial route, determining an end point that can be reach on the terrestrial route within the first time interval using the selected mode of transportation; and storing a geo-fence for the first time interval and mode of transportation in associating with the determined end points.

TL;DR: In this paper, a systeme de supervision des reseaux de telecommunication is proposed, which is based on the reconnaissance en ligne and en temps reel de sequences temporelles dalarmes appelees chroniques ou scenarios.

Abstract: We propose a model for image space discretisation based on face location and on body anthropometry. In this body-face space, a neural network recognizes hand postures. The neural network is a constrained generative model already applied to face detection.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe an application of exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control charts used to help the operator in alert processing, which makes output of verbose signatures more tolerable for the operator and yet allow him to obtain the useful information available.
Abstract: Intrusion detection systems typically create large amounts of alerts, processing of which is a time consuming task for the user. This paper describes an application of exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control charts used to help the operator in alert processing. Depending on his objectives, some alerts are individually insignificant, but when aggregated they can provide important information on the monitored system’s state. Thus it is not always the best solution to discard those alerts, for instance, by means of filtering, correlation, or by simply removing the signature. We deploy a widely used EWMA control chart for extracting trends and highlighting anomalies from alert information provided by sensors performing pattern matching. The aim is to make output of verbose signatures more tolerable for the operator and yet allow him to obtain the useful information available. The applied method is described and experimentation along its results with real world data are presented. A test metric is proposed to evaluate the results.
