TL;DR: In this paper, the emission factors of particles and their carbonaceous fractions, including black carbon (BC) and organic carbon (OC), were measured for residential burning of coal-chunks.
Abstract: [1] The emission factors (EFs) of particles and their carbonaceous fractions, including black carbon (BC) and organic carbon (OC), are measured for residential burning of coal-chunks. Nine types of coals with wide-ranged thermal maturities were used. Particulate emissions from coal-stove are collected on quartz fiber filters through a dilution sampling system and analyzed for BC and OC by thermal-optical method. The EFs of particulate matter, OC, and BC from bituminous coal burning are 16.77, 8.29, and 3.32 g/kg, respectively, on the basis of burned dry and ash-free (daf) coal mass. They were much higher than those of anthracites, which are 0.78, 0.04, and 0.004 g/kg, respectively. Annual emission inventories of particles, OC, and BC from household coal burning are also estimated based on the EFs and coal consumption. The results of the calculations are 917.8, 477.7, and 128.4 gigagrams (Gg) for total particles, OC, and BC emitted in China during the year 2000.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors summarized and analyzed the generation, composition, characteristics and the leaching behaviors of the most of wastes obtained from the stainless steel processes and made a review of several methods for treating the various stainless steel wastes.
Abstract: Significant quantities of wastes are generated as the waste materials or byproducts every day from stainless steel processes. According to the origins and characteristics, the stainless steel wastes can be mainly classified into two categories, slags and dusts. They usually contained considerable quantities of valuable metals and materials. This paper summarized and analyzed the generation, composition, characteristics and the leaching behaviors of the most of wastes obtained from the stainless steel processes. On this basis, a review of several methods for treating the various stainless steel wastes was made. It is very essential not only for recycling the valuable metals and mineral resources but also for protecting the environment.

TL;DR: It is suggested that exhausted T cells could act as a biomarker to select the most care-demanding patients for tailored therapies because of their prognostic value in HCC.
Abstract: CD8+ T cells differentiate into exhausted status within tumors, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which constitutes a solid barrier to effective anti-tumor immunity. A detailed characterization of exhausted T cells and their prognostic value in HCC is lacking. We collected fresh tumor tissues with adjacent non-tumor liver tissues and blood specimens of 56 HCC patients, as well as archived samples from two independent cohorts of HCC patients (n = 358 and n = 254), who underwent surgical resection. Flow cytometry and multiplex immunostaining were used to characterize CD8+ T cells. Patient prognosis was evaluated by Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox regression analysis. CD8+ T cells were classified into three distinct subpopulations: PD1Hi, PD1Int and PD1−. PD1Hi CD8+ T cells were significantly enriched in tumor compared to adjacent non-tumor liver tissues. PD1Hi CD8+ T cells highly expressed exhaustion-related inhibitory receptors (TIM3, CTLA-4, etc.) and transcription factors (Eomes, BATF, etc.). In addition, PD1Hi CD8+ T cells expressed low levels of cytotoxic molecules and displayed a compromised capacity to produce pro-inflammatory cytokines while the expression of anti-inflammatory IL-10 was up-regulated following mitotic stimulation. Furthermore, PD1Hi CD8+ T cells shared features with tissue resident memory T cells and were also characterized in an aberrantly activated status with an apoptosis-prone potential. In two independent cohorts of HCC patients (n = 358 and n = 254), we demonstrated that PD1Hi or TIM3+PD1Hi CD8+ T cells were significantly correlated with poor prognosis, and the latter was positioned in close proximity to PD-L1+ tumor associated macrophages. The current study unveils the unique features of PD1Hi CD8+ exhausted T cells in HCC, and also suggests that exhausted T cells could act as a biomarker to select the most care-demanding patients for tailored therapies.

TL;DR: In this article, a grid-interfacing converter system with enhanced voltage quality is proposed for microgrid applications, which adapts the conventional series-parallel structure for the purpose of interfacing local generation/microgrid to the grid.
Abstract: Grid-interfacing converter systems with enhanced voltage quality are proposed for microgrid applications in this paper. By adapting the conventional series-parallel structure, a group of grid-interfacing system topologies are proposed for the purpose of interfacing local generation/microgrid to the grid, or interconnecting microgrids. The functionality of the proposed systems is also reconfigured in order to ease the control design and to improve overall system performance, differing from existing series-parallel structure-based systems. Experiments with a concrete laboratory system are given to detail the proposed concepts and to demonstrate the practical implementations. Two three-phase four-leg inverters, together with dc microsources and nonlinear loads, are employed to construct a general series-parallel grid-interfacing system. Through the introduction of multilevel control objectives, it is illustrated that the proposed system could ride through voltage disturbances and continue the power transfer between the local generation and the grid, while a high-quality voltage is maintained for the local loads. The system also shows the possibility to achieve auxiliary functions such as voltage unbalance correction and harmonic current compensation. The main design aspects of the controllers are specified, and the entire system is effectively validated on a laboratory setup.
