Abstract: Fractional Brownian motion (fBm) is a stochastic process which deviates significantly from Brownian motion and semimartingales, and others classically used in probability theory. As a centered Gaussian process, it is characterized by the stationarity of its increments and a medium- or long-memory property which is in sharp contrast with martingales and Markov processes. FBm has become a popular choice for applications where classical processes cannot model these non-trivial properties; for instance long memory, which is also known as persistence, is of fundamental importance for financial data and in internet traffic. The mathematical theory of fBm is currently being developed vigorously by a number of stochastic analysts, in various directions, using complementary and sometimes competing tools. This book is concerned with several aspects of fBm, including the stochastic integration with respect to it, the study of its supremum and its appearance as limit of partial sums involving stationary sequences, to name but a few. The book is addressed to researchers and graduate students in probability and mathematical statistics. With very few exceptions (where precise references are given), every stated result is proved.

Abstract: The importance of appropriate handling of artifacts in interbeat interval (IBI) data must not be underestimated. Even a single artifact may cause unreliable heart rate variability (HRV) results. Thus, a robust artifact detection algorithm and the option for manual intervention by the researcher form key components for confident HRV analysis. Here, we present ARTiiFACT, a software tool for processing electrocardiogram and IBI data. Both automated and manual artifact detection and correction are available in a graphical user interface. In addition, ARTiiFACT includes time- and frequency-based HRV analyses and descriptive statistics, thus offering the basic tools for HRV analysis. Notably, all program steps can be executed separately and allow for data export, thus offering high flexibility and interoperability with a whole range of applications.

Abstract: We describe a compression technique that reduces the public key size of van Dijk, Gentry, Halevi and Vaikuntanathan's (DGHV) fully homomorphic scheme over the integers from O(λ7) to O(λ5). Our variant remains semantically secure, but in the random oracle model. We obtain an implementation of the full scheme with a 10.1 MB public key instead of 802 MB using similar parameters as in [7]. Additionally we show how to extend the quadratic encryption technique of [7] to higher degrees, to obtain a shorter public-key for the basic scheme. This paper also describes a new modulus switching technique for the DGHV scheme that enables to use the new FHE framework without bootstrapping from Brakerski, Gentry and Vaikuntanathan with the DGHV scheme. Finally we describe an improved attack against the Approximate GCD Problem on which the DGHV scheme is based, with complexity O(2ρ) instead of O(23ρ/2).

Abstract: OBJECTIVE To find a simple definition of partial remission in type 1 diabetes that reflects both residual beta-cell function and efficacy of insulin treatment. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS A total of 275 patients aged 300 pmol/l was used to define partial remission. The IDAA1C 300 pmol/l) 9 patients entered partial remission and 49 ended. IDAA1C at 6 months has good predictive power for stimulated C-peptide concentrations after both 6 and 12 months. CONCLUSIONS A new definition of partial remission is proposed, including both glycemic control and insulin dose. It reflects residual beta-cell function and has better stability compared with the conventional definitions.
