TL;DR: In this article, the salinity dependence of xanthan conformation is analyzed on the basis of Yamakawa's theory for a wormlike chain model with a total persistence length comprising a structural part, which is found to assume different values depending on the nature of the secondary structure (ordered or not), and an electrostatic part which is dependent on the ionic strength.

TL;DR: It seems that reducing the rate of colorectal resection leads to better functional outcomes in women presenting with rectal endometriosis, lending support to the conservative surgical philosophy over mandatory colore ectopic resection.

TL;DR: It is postulate that the effect of age on coping is mediated by coping resources, such as self-efficacy, perceived stress and social support satisfaction, which reflect the effectiveness with which a person's adaptive processes deal with age-associated changes in self-referred beliefs and environment perception.
Abstract: Objectives: The present study was prompted by the lack of agreement on how coping changes with age. We postulate that the effect of age on coping is mediated by coping resources, such as self-efficacy, perceived stress and social support satisfaction. Method: The participants in the study were community dwelling and aged between 22 and 88 years old. Data were collected using the General Self Efficacy Scale, the Social Support Questionnaire, the Perceived Stress Scale, the Geriatric Depression Scale, the Social Readjustment Rating Scale (life-events) and the Way of Coping Checklist. Results: We performed path analyses for two competitive structural models: M1 (age does not directly affect coping processes) and M2 (age directly affects coping processes). Our results supported a modified version of M2. Age was not found to predict either of two coping strategies: problem-focused coping is predicted by self-efficacy and social support satisfaction; emotion-focused coping is predicted by social support satisfa...

TL;DR: The objective of the study was to assess plasma levels of Aβ42 and Aβ40 in amnestic mild cognitive impairment, nonamnestic MCI, and AD patients and to investigate relationships between peripheral and central biomarkers.
Abstract: Introduction Diagnostic relevance of plasma amyloid β (Aβ) for Alzheimer's disease (AD) process yields conflicting results. The objective of the study was to assess plasma levels of Aβ 42 and Aβ 40 in amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI), nonamnestic MCI, and AD patients and to investigate relationships between peripheral and central biomarkers. Methods One thousand forty participants (417 amnestic MCI, 122 nonamnestic MCI, and 501 AD) from the Biomarker of AmyLoid pepTide and AlZheimer's diseAse Risk multicenter prospective study with cognition, plasma, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and magnetic resonance imaging assessments were included. Results Plasma Aβ 1–42 and Aβ 1–40 were lower in AD (36.9 [11.7] and 263 [80] pg/mL) than in amnestic MCI (38.2 [11.9] and 269 [68] pg/mL) than in nonamnestic MCI (39.7 [10.5] and 272 [52] pg/mL), respectively ( P = .01 for overall difference between groups for Aβ 1–42 and P = .04 for Aβ 1–40 ). Globally, plasma Aβ 1–42 correlated with age, Mini–Mental State Examination, and APOE e4 allele. Plasma Aβ 1–42 correlated with all CSF biomarkers in MCI but only with CSF Aβ 42 in AD. Discussion Plasma Aβ was associated with cognitive status and CSF biomarkers, suggesting the interest of plasma amyloid biomarkers for diagnosis purpose.

TL;DR: The interactive acculturation model (IAM) as discussed by the authors proposes that acculture orientations endorsed by host majority and immigrant minority members influence the quality of their intergroup relations, and a questionnaire study was conducted with 199 French host majority respondents and 124 North African immigrants who interacted weekly as undergraduates at a large university in a suburb of Paris.
