Acute Hepatitis E Infection Accounts for Some Cases of Suspected Drug-Induced Liver Injury

TLDR
HEV infection contributes to a small but important proportion of cases of acute liver injury that are suspected to be drug induced, andSerologic testing for HEV infection should be performed, particularly if clinical features are compatible with acute viral hepatitis.

Comparison of Liver Biopsy Findings with the Digestive Disease Week Japan 2004 Scale for Diagnosis of Drug-Induced Liver Injury

TL;DR: The liver biopsy findings and DDW-J scale were well correlated, and the hepatocellular type of liver injuries was well coincided by both evaluations, though there were several discrepant cases, particularly in cholestatic type.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Unmet Needs of Hepatitis E Virus Diagnosis in Suspected Drug-Induced Liver Injury in Limited Resource Setting.

TL;DR: In this article, a putative threshold for liver function parameters was determined for drug-induced liver injury (DILI) diagnosis based on the exclusion of other causes of liver dysfunction and the recognition of potential causative drugs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Exacerbation of hepatitis E virus infection during anti-TNFα treatment.

TL;DR: A case of severe exacerbation of a chronic HEV infection in a patient undergoing treatment with a TNFα-inhibitor for psoriatic arthritis despite potent anti-HEV T-cell responses is described.

Multikinase inhibitor-induced liver injury in patients with cancer: A review for clinicians.

TL;DR: All MKIs can potentially cause liver injury, which is sometimes irreversible, and as there is still no strategy available to prevent MKI-related hepatotoxicity, early detection remains crucial.

Successful extracorporeal liver dialysis for the treatment of trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole-induced fulminant hepatic failure.

TL;DR: A 17-year-old Chinese male adolescent who presented with fever, myalgia, generalised maculopapular rash and lymphadenopathy after taking TMP-SMZ for acne vulgaris subsequently developed hepatic encephalopathy and was worked up for urgent liver transplantation.

Causality assessment of adverse reactions to drugs--I. A novel method based on the conclusions of international consensus meetings: application to drug-induced liver injuries.

TL;DR: In this paper, a new method for drug causality assessment is described and applied to reports of acute liver injuries, using reports with positive rechallenge as external standard.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hepatitis E virus and chronic hepatitis in organ-transplant recipients.

TL;DR: The time from transplantation to diagnosis was significantly shorter and the total counts of lymphocytes and of CD2, CD3, and CD4 T cells were significantly lower in patients in whom chronic disease developed.

A novel virus in swine is closely related to the human hepatitis E virus

TL;DR: The discovery of swine HEV not only has implications for HEV vaccine development, diagnosis, and biology, but also raises a potential public health concern for zoonosis or xenozoonosis following xenotransplantation with pig organs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hepatitis E virus.

TL;DR: Hepatitis E virus is an enterically transmitted virus that causes both epidemics and sporadic cases of acute hepatitis in many countries of Asia and Africa but only rarely causes disease in more industrialised countries.
