Combining Illumination Dimming Based on Pulse-Width Modulation With Visible-Light Communications Based on Discrete Multitone

TL;DR: It was shown that practical communication is only feasible when the line rate of the dimming modulation is at least twice the frequency assigned to the largest multitone subcarrier frequency, and under this constraint and when using a suitably modified demodulation scheme, dimming does not influence the data transmission.

Localization via Visible Light Systems

TL;DR: This paper investigates a cooperative VLP system architecture in which VLC receiver units are able to communicate with each other for the purpose of cooperation, and presents a low-complexity, iterative localization algorithm to demonstrate the benefits of cooperation in VLP systems.

Analysis of the Integrated SEPIC-Flyback Converter as a Single-Stage Single-Switch Power-Factor-Correction LED Driver

TL;DR: A new isolated single-stage single-switch power-factor-correction (S4 PFC) driver for supplying light-emitting diodes (LEDs) without electrolytic capacitor is proposed.

Junction temperature in light-emitting diodes assessed by different methods

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed analysis of the temperature dependence of a tri-chromatic white LED source (consisting of three types of LEDs) is performed, which reveals that the chromaticity point shifts towards the blue, the color rendering index (CRI) decreases, and the luminous efficacy decreases as the junction temperature increases.

Does one hour of bright or short-wavelength filtered tablet screenlight have a meaningful effect on adolescents' pre-bedtime alertness, sleep, and daytime functioning?

TL;DR: This study analysed the pre-sleep alertness, sleep, and morning functioning of 16 healthy adolescents who used a bright tablet screen, dim screen, and a filtered short-wavelength screen for 1 hr before their usual bedtime in a within-subjects protocol, finding minimal clinical significance.

Origin of efficiency droop in GaN-based light-emitting diodes

TL;DR: In this paper, the efficiency droop in GaInN∕GaN multiple-quantum well (MQW) light-emitting diodes was investigated and it was shown that the droop is not related to MQW efficiency but rather to the recombination of carriers outside the MqW region.

Lasing in direct-bandgap GeSn alloy grown on Si

TL;DR: In this paper, a direct bandgap GeSn alloy, grown directly onto Si(001), was used for experimentally demonstrating lasing threshold and linewidth narrowing at low temperatures.
