Identification of a STMS marker for sucrose content in sugarcane (Saccharum spp.)

TL;DR: A mapping population involving the high sucrose parent and a low Sucrose parent was developed and phenotyped for juice quality through evaluating and holds promise in marker assisted selection and marker assisted backcrossing to identify sucrose rich clones in the early stages of selection.
Journal Article

Genetic variability in rice (Oryza sativa L.) landraces for seedling vigour traits

TL;DR: Landraces viz., Senkar, Palkachaka, Murugankar, Kaatuponni, Kochin Samba, Poongar, Thillainayagam and Kuliyadichan exhibited significantly higher seedling height on both 15 and 25 DAS, indicating these landraces may harbour favourable alleles for early seedling vigour.
Journal ArticleDOI

Study on Heterosis over Environments in Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.)

TL;DR: Being a centre of origin, Brinjal has a huge genetic divergence in India which offers much scope for improvement through heterosis breeding, and the effort could enhance its quality and productivity without sacrificing the consumers’ choice.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of Date of Sowing and Spacing on Growth and Yield of radish (Raphanus sativus L.) cv. Pusa Chetki

TL;DR: Considering the interaction of sowing dates and spacing it was found that plants sown on 1 October with the spacing of 45 cm × 10 cm can resulted in superior performance with respect to growth and yield parameters of radish cv.

Glycerinization of foliages for dry flower products making

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of glycerine on preservation of foliages for making dry flower products was evaluated with four different types of plants viz., podocarpus, leather leaf fern, baby eucalyptus and silver dollar.

Journal ArticleDOI

Salinity induced oxidative stress and antioxidant system in salt-tolerant and salt-sensitive cultivars of rice Oryza sativa L

TL;DR: It is inferred that leaves of salt-tolerant cultivars tend to attain greater capacity to perform reactions of antioxidative pathway under saline conditions to combat salinity-induced oxidative stress.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microbial properties of soils as affected by cropping and nutrient management practices in several long-term manurial experiments in the semi-arid tropics of India

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of longterm cropping, fertilization, manuring and their integration on microbial community were studied in soil samples from five long-term fertilizer experiments under various rainfed production systems in the semi-arid tropics of India.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changes in carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus levels due to deforestation and cultivation: A case study in Simlipal National Park, India

TL;DR: In this article, the authors showed that deforestation and cultivation result in statistically significant reduction in organic C, total N and C:N ratios but no significant changes in total and available P levels; C:P and N:P ratios also reduced.
Journal ArticleDOI

Arsenic-tolerant, arsenite-oxidising bacterial strains in the contaminated soils of West Bengal, India

TL;DR: This study presents the first correlation regarding the presence of the aoxB gene and As(III) oxidation ability in Geobacillus stearothermophilus, and identifies four strains as superior As-oxidisers.

Genetic Variability Studies for Qualitative and Quantitative traits in Popular Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Hybrids of India

TL;DR: The characters viz., number of filled grains per panicle and water uptake exhibited high heritability coupled with high genetic advance indicating that simple selection could be effective for improving these characters.
