Journal ArticleDOI

Salinity induced oxidative stress and antioxidant system in salt-tolerant and salt-sensitive cultivars of rice Oryza sativa L

TL;DR: It is inferred that leaves of salt-tolerant cultivars tend to attain greater capacity to perform reactions of antioxidative pathway under saline conditions to combat salinity-induced oxidative stress.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microbial properties of soils as affected by cropping and nutrient management practices in several long-term manurial experiments in the semi-arid tropics of India

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of longterm cropping, fertilization, manuring and their integration on microbial community were studied in soil samples from five long-term fertilizer experiments under various rainfed production systems in the semi-arid tropics of India.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changes in carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus levels due to deforestation and cultivation: A case study in Simlipal National Park, India

TL;DR: In this article, the authors showed that deforestation and cultivation result in statistically significant reduction in organic C, total N and C:N ratios but no significant changes in total and available P levels; C:P and N:P ratios also reduced.
Journal ArticleDOI

Arsenic-tolerant, arsenite-oxidising bacterial strains in the contaminated soils of West Bengal, India

TL;DR: This study presents the first correlation regarding the presence of the aoxB gene and As(III) oxidation ability in Geobacillus stearothermophilus, and identifies four strains as superior As-oxidisers.

Genetic Variability Studies for Qualitative and Quantitative traits in Popular Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Hybrids of India

TL;DR: The characters viz., number of filled grains per panicle and water uptake exhibited high heritability coupled with high genetic advance indicating that simple selection could be effective for improving these characters.

Genetic analysis of some root and shoot characters in rice under rainfed upland situation

TL;DR: Genetic analysis of root and two shoot characters under rainfed upland situation indicated that maximum root length, root volume, roots per plant in both the crosses and plant height in Nilajee/Annada were under the control of nonadditive gene action.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evaluation of cultivars of strawberry, a temperate fruit for its adaptability as well as productivity in sub-tropical agro-climatic condition of Supaul district in Bihar.

TL;DR: It was revealed that short day cultivars were more tolerant to insect pests than day neutral cultivars, particularly in later stage of fruit development leading to record higher yield and a suitable micro-climate was required for optimum plant growth, higher crop yield and the best quality fruits.
Journal ArticleDOI

Estimation of genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance for seed yield and its attributes in sesame (Sesamum indicum L.)

TL;DR: This poster presents a probabilistic procedure for determining the phytochemical properties of castor oil and its application in crops and its applications in fruit and vegetable crops.
Journal ArticleDOI

VSI 434: New Sugarcane Variety Obtained Through Somaclonal Variation

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that somaclonal variation can be utilized for improvement of sugarcane varieties by observing changes in number of traits and improvement in sucrose percent and moderately red rot resistant as compared to parent var.
Journal ArticleDOI

Estimation of Genetic Variability, Heritability and Genetic Gain for Wood Density and Fibre Length in 36 Clones of White Willow (Salix Alba L.)

TL;DR: Variability of wood density and fibre length was determined in 36 genotypes of Salix alba L. procured from seven different European countries and high heritability values show that the genetic control is stronger for wood density than for fibre length.
