Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of nitrogen and phosphorus nutrition on growth, flowering, flower yield and chlorophyll content of different varieties of African marigold (Tagetes erecta L.)

TL;DR: The interaction effect of N and P was found significant for plant spread at 60 DAT and at the end of harvest season and the maximum total chlorophyll content was found due to addition of nitrogen and phosphorus.
Journal Article

Combining ability for fruit yield and its components in okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench.].

TL;DR: Findings indicated more importance of non-additive gene action as compared to additive gene action in the expression of fruit yield and its component traits in okra.
Journal Article

Salinity tolerance of lentil genotypes based on stress tolerance indices

TL;DR: The results of pooled ANOVA showed that the genotype (G) environment (E), and genotype × environment (GxE) interaction effects were highly significant for seedling dry weight and selection should be based on these indices in salinity tolerance programmes.
Journal Article

Genetic architecture of fruit yield and its contributing quantitative traits in Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench.

TL;DR: The results on epistatic gene effects for fruit yield and its contributing component traits in different cross-environment combinations suggests that recurrent selection, bi-parental mating and inter se mating between desirable segregants followed by selection or multiple crosses offer good promising methods.

Journal ArticleDOI

Salinity induced oxidative stress and antioxidant system in salt-tolerant and salt-sensitive cultivars of rice Oryza sativa L

TL;DR: It is inferred that leaves of salt-tolerant cultivars tend to attain greater capacity to perform reactions of antioxidative pathway under saline conditions to combat salinity-induced oxidative stress.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microbial properties of soils as affected by cropping and nutrient management practices in several long-term manurial experiments in the semi-arid tropics of India

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of longterm cropping, fertilization, manuring and their integration on microbial community were studied in soil samples from five long-term fertilizer experiments under various rainfed production systems in the semi-arid tropics of India.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changes in carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus levels due to deforestation and cultivation: A case study in Simlipal National Park, India

TL;DR: In this article, the authors showed that deforestation and cultivation result in statistically significant reduction in organic C, total N and C:N ratios but no significant changes in total and available P levels; C:P and N:P ratios also reduced.
Journal ArticleDOI

Arsenic-tolerant, arsenite-oxidising bacterial strains in the contaminated soils of West Bengal, India

TL;DR: This study presents the first correlation regarding the presence of the aoxB gene and As(III) oxidation ability in Geobacillus stearothermophilus, and identifies four strains as superior As-oxidisers.

Genetic Variability Studies for Qualitative and Quantitative traits in Popular Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Hybrids of India

TL;DR: The characters viz., number of filled grains per panicle and water uptake exhibited high heritability coupled with high genetic advance indicating that simple selection could be effective for improving these characters.
