Journal ArticleDOI

Salinity induced oxidative stress and antioxidant system in salt-tolerant and salt-sensitive cultivars of rice Oryza sativa L

TL;DR: It is inferred that leaves of salt-tolerant cultivars tend to attain greater capacity to perform reactions of antioxidative pathway under saline conditions to combat salinity-induced oxidative stress.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microbial properties of soils as affected by cropping and nutrient management practices in several long-term manurial experiments in the semi-arid tropics of India

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of longterm cropping, fertilization, manuring and their integration on microbial community were studied in soil samples from five long-term fertilizer experiments under various rainfed production systems in the semi-arid tropics of India.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changes in carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus levels due to deforestation and cultivation: A case study in Simlipal National Park, India

TL;DR: In this article, the authors showed that deforestation and cultivation result in statistically significant reduction in organic C, total N and C:N ratios but no significant changes in total and available P levels; C:P and N:P ratios also reduced.
Journal ArticleDOI

Arsenic-tolerant, arsenite-oxidising bacterial strains in the contaminated soils of West Bengal, India

TL;DR: This study presents the first correlation regarding the presence of the aoxB gene and As(III) oxidation ability in Geobacillus stearothermophilus, and identifies four strains as superior As-oxidisers.

Genetic Variability Studies for Qualitative and Quantitative traits in Popular Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Hybrids of India

TL;DR: The characters viz., number of filled grains per panicle and water uptake exhibited high heritability coupled with high genetic advance indicating that simple selection could be effective for improving these characters.

Genetic variability, character association and path analysis studies in Kharif onion (Allium cepa var. cepa L.).

TL;DR: High heritability with moderate to high GCV and genetic advance were recorded for double/split bulb per cent, fresh bulb weight and bulb yield as well as storage losses due to rotting, sprouting and total loss denoting their possibility of improvement with simple selection.
Journal Article

Combining ability analysis for yield and yield contributing traits in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)

TL;DR: Analysis of variances for combining ability revealed that variances due to lines x testers showed highly significant differences for all the characters in E1 and E2 except for number of seeds per pod, whereas variance due to Lines x testers was also highly significant for most of the characters studied.

Integrated nutrient management in aonla cv. A-7 in the red lateritic region of West Bengal

TL;DR: It appears from the investigation that application of 100: 25:150 g NPK plant -1 + 10kg FYM+ 50g PSB plant - 1 and 100:25:150g NPK + 10KG FYM + 50G PSB Plant -1 treatments are beneficial for increasing vegetati ve growth as well as improving yield and yield.

Enhanced Phytoremediation Technology for Chromium contaminated Soils using Biological Amendments

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of two organic soil amendments; poultry manure and vermicompost and microbial cultures on chromium accumulation in maize (Zea mays L.) in soil contaminated with tannery wastes were examined.
Journal ArticleDOI

Variance Component Analysis of Quantitative Traits in Muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.)

TL;DR: This research highlights the need to understand more fully the phytochemical properties ofruits and vegetables before they are processed for human consumption and also investigates the role of pesticides in the development of these properties.
