Extended gamma-ray sources around pulsars constrain the origin of the positron flux at Earth

Anushka Udara Abeysekara, +116 more
- 17 Nov 2017 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported the detection, using the High-Altitude Water Cherenkov Observatory (HAWC), of extended tera-electron volt gamma-ray emission coincident with the locations of two nearby middle-aged pulsars (Geminga and PSR B0656+14).
Proceedings ArticleDOI

XIPE: the x-ray imaging polarimetry explorer

P. Soffitta, +421 more
- 01 Jan 2016 -
TL;DR: The X-ray Imaging Polarimetry Explorer (XIPE) as discussed by the authors is a mission dedicated to Xray Astronomy which is in a competitive phase A as fourth medium size mission of ESA (M4).
Journal ArticleDOI

Efficient production of high-energy nonthermal particles during magnetic reconnection in a magnetically dominated ion–electron plasma

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate nonthermal particle acceleration during magnetic reconnection in a magnetically-dominated ion-electron plasma using fully kinetic simulations and demonstrate that reconnection quickly establishes power-law energy distributions for both electrons and ions within several ($2-3) light-crossing times.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multiple Galactic Sources with Emission Above 56 TeV Detected by HAWC

Anushka Udara Abeysekara, +104 more
TL;DR: This first catalog of gamma-ray sources emitting above 56 and 100 TeV with data from the High Altitude Water Cherenkov Observatory, a wide field-of-view observatory capable of detecting gamma rays up to a few hundred TeV, is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

X-Ray and Gamma-Ray Polarization in Leptonic and Hadronic Jet Models of Blazars

TL;DR: In this paper, the expected X-ray and γ-ray polarization signatures resulting from synchrotron self-Compton emission in leptonic models compared to the polarization signatures from proton synchoretron and cascade synchron emission in hadronic models for blazars were analyzed.
