Kylie Russell,Han-Guang Zhang,Lyn Gillanders,Adam Bartlett,Helena L. Fisk,Philip C. Calder,Peter J Swan,Lindsay D. Plank +7 more
TL;DR: In well-nourished patients undergoing elective liver resection, this study failed to show any benefit of preoperative immunonutrition.
Journal ArticleDOI
A systematic review of the effects of increasing arachidonic acid intake on PUFA status, metabolism and health-related outcomes in humans.
Philip C. Calder,Cristina Campoy,Ans Eilander,Mathilde Fleith,Stewart Forsyth,Per-Olof Larsson,Bettina Schelkle,Szimonetta Lohner,Aliz Szommer,Bert J. M. van de Heijning,Ronald P. Mensink +10 more
TL;DR: The studies reviewed here suggest no adverse effects in adults of increased ARA intake up to at least 1000–1500 mg/d on blood lipids, platelet aggregation and blood clotting, immune function, inflammation or urinary excretion of ARA metabolites.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kramer,Neerja Karnani,Neerja Karnani,Yung Seng Lee,Yung Seng Lee,Yung Seng Lee +25 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used a Mendelian randomization approach utilizing fatty acid desaturase (FADS) gene variants affecting LC-PUFA metabolism to identify associations between FADS variants and gestation duration.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modification of subcutaneous white adipose tissue inflammation by omega-3 fatty acids is limited in human obesity-a double blind, randomised clinical trial
Helena L. Fisk,Caroline E. Childs,Elizabeth A. Miles,Rob Ayres,Paul S. Noakes,Carolina Paras-Chavez,Ondrej Kuda,Jan Kopecky,Elie Antoun,Karen A. Lillycrop,Philip C. Calder +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper , a 12-week intervention with either 3 g/day of a fish oil concentrate (providing 1.1 g eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) + 0.8 g docosahexaenoic acids (DHA) or 3 g /day of corn oil was shown to increase the expression of genes involved in immune and inflammatory response.
Journal ArticleDOI
Participating in peer review is both a privilege and a professional duty
TL;DR: The stages that lead up to making a decision on a manuscript submitted to the British Journal of Nutrition from the time of receipt of the manuscript are told to provide some insight into the enormity of the task of peer review across the discipline of nutritional science and a plea for those who feel qualified to participate in this task to do so.
