Work-Family Conflict A Comparison by Gender, Family Type, and Perceived Control

Abstract: The objective of this research was to examine the relationships between the dependent variable of work-family conflict (operationalized as overload, work to family interference, family to work interference) and the independent variables of gender, family type, and perceived control. The sample consisted of 1,989 single-parent and dual-income employees with children ages 6 through 12. The findings indicated that individuals with higher perceived control have lower levels of overload and interference. Women had higher levels of overload and interference than did men. Single parents had similar levels of overload and interference from family to work as married individuals.

Exchange Rate Pass-Through to Domestic Prices: Does the Inflationary Environment Matter?

Abstract: The paper tests a hypothesis suggested by Taylor (2000) that a low inflationary environment leads to a low exchange rate pass-through to domestic prices. To test this hypothesis, the paper derives a pass-through relation based on new open economy macroeconomic models. A large database that includes 1979-2000 data for 71 countries is used to estimate this relation. There is strong evidence of a positive and significant association between the pass-through and the average inflation rate across countries and periods. The inflation rate, moreover, dominates other macroeconomic variables in explaining cross-regime differences in the pass-through.

A simple method for the analysis of clustered binary data.

Abstract: A simple method for comparing independent groups of clustered binary data with group-specific covariates is proposed It is based on the concepts of design effect and effective sample size widely used in sample surveys, and assumes no specific models for the intracluster correlations It can be implemented using any standard computer program for the analysis of independent binary data after a small amount of preprocessing The method is applied to a variety of problems involving clustered binary data: testing homogeneity of proportions, estimating dose-response models and testing for trend in proportions, and performing the Mantel-Haenszel chi-squared test for independence in a series of 2 x 2 tables and estimating the common odds ratio and its variance Illustrative applications of the method are also presented
