01 May 2001TL;DR: In this review paper various high-speed interconnect effects are briefly discussed, recent advances in transmission line macromodeling techniques are presented, and simulation of high- speed interconnects using model-reduction-based algorithms is discussed in detail.
Abstract: With the rapid developments in very large-scale integration (VLSI) technology, design and computer-aided design (CAD) techniques, at both the chip and package level, the operating frequencies are fast reaching the vicinity of gigahertz and switching times are getting to the subnanosecond levels. The ever increasing quest for high-speed applications is placing higher demands on interconnect performance and highlighted the previously negligible effects of interconnects such as ringing, signal delay, distortion, reflections, and crosstalk. In this review paper various high-speed interconnect effects are briefly discussed. In addition, recent advances in transmission line macromodeling techniques are presented. Also, simulation of high-speed interconnects using model-reduction-based algorithms is discussed in detail.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors respond to GLM's criticisms of RNR and conclude that little substance is added by GLM that is not already included in RNR, although proponents of GLM may learn from the popular appeal that GLM, with its positive, strength-based focus, has garnered from clinicians over the past decade.
Abstract: The risk-need-responsivity (RNR) model has been widely regarded as the premier model for guiding offender assessment and treatment. The RNR model underlies some of the most widely used risk-needs offender assessment instruments, and it is the only theoretical model that has been used to interpret the offender treatment literature. Recently, the good lives model (GLM) has been promoted as an alternative and enhancement to RNR. GLM sets itself apart from RNR by its positive, strengths-based, and restorative model of rehabilitation. In addition, GLM hypothesizes that enhancing personal fulfillment will lead naturally to reductions in criminogenic needs, whereas RNR posits the reverse direction. In this article the authors respond to GLM’s criticisms of RNR and conclude that little substance is added by GLM that is not already included in RNR, although proponents of RNR may learn from the popular appeal that GLM, with its positive, strength-based focus, has garnered from clinicians over the past decade.

TL;DR: This Focus Review describes the emerging class of near-infrared (NIR) organic compounds containing the conjugated polyene, polymethine, and donor-acceptor chromophores and exploration of their NIR-absorbing, Nir-fluorescence, and N IR-photosensitizing properties for potential applications in heat absorbers, solar cells, andNIR light-emitting diodes.
Abstract: This Focus Review describes the emerging class of near-infrared (NIR) organic compounds containing the conjugated polyene, polymethine, and donor-acceptor chromophores and exploration of their NIR-absorbing, NIR-fluorescence, and NIR-photosensitizing properties for potential applications in heat absorbers, solar cells, and NIR light-emitting diodes Examples of NIR organic compounds are reviewed with emphasis on the molecular design, NIR absorption, and fluorescence and particular emerging applications The donor-acceptor type of NIR chromophores are particularly introduced owing to some unique features, including the designer-made energy gaps, facile synthesis, good processability, and controllable morphology and properties in the solid state Future directions in research and development of NIR organic materials and applications are then offered from a personal perspective

TL;DR: This article first catalogues existing approaches, highlighting novel features of selected schemes and identifying key usability or security advantages, and reviews usability requirements for knowledge-based authentication as they apply to graphical passwords.
Abstract: Starting around 1999, a great many graphical password schemes have been proposed as alternatives to text-based password authentication. We provide a comprehensive overview of published research in the area, covering both usability and security aspects as well as system evaluation. The article first catalogues existing approaches, highlighting novel features of selected schemes and identifying key usability or security advantages. We then review usability requirements for knowledge-based authentication as they apply to graphical passwords, identify security threats that such systems must address and review known attacks, discuss methodological issues related to empirical evaluation, and identify areas for further research and improved methodology.
