Abstract: Person-centredness as a concept is becoming more prominent and increasingly central within some research literature, approaches to practice and as a guiding principle within some health and social care policy. Despite the increasing body of literature into person-centred nursing (PCN), there continues to be a ‘siloed’ approach to its study, with few studies integrating perspectives from across nursing specialties. The purpose of this paper is to present the results of a study undertaken to explore if the secondary analysis of findings from four different and unrelated research studies (that did not have the main aim of researching person-centredness) could inform our understanding of person-centred nursing. A qualitative meta-synthesis was undertaken of the data derived from the four unrelated research studies undertaken with different client groups with long-term health conditions. A hermeneutic and interpretative approach was used to guide the analysis of data and framed within a particular person-centred nursing framework. Findings suggest ‘professional competence’ (where competence is understood more broadly than technical competence) and knowing ‘self’ are important prerequisites for person-centred nursing. Characteristics of the care environment were also found to be critical. Despite the existence of expressed person-centred values, care processes largely remained routinised, ritualistic and affording few opportunities for the formation of meaningful relationships. Person-centred nursing needs to be understood in a broader context than the immediate nurse–patient/family relationship. The person-centred nursing framework has utility in helping to understand the dynamics of the components of person-centredness and overcoming the siloed nature of many current perspectives.

Abstract: The reduced pressure synthesis of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) with sheet-like morphology has been achieved with the introduction of an amphiphilic triblock copolymer into the oxidant thin film. Addition of the copolymer not only results in an oxidant thin film which remains liquid-like under reduced pressure but also induces structured growth during film formation. PEDOT films were polymerized using the vacuum vapor phase polymerization (VPP) technique, in which we show that maintaining a liquid-like state for the oxidant is essential. The resulting conductivity is equivalent to commercially available indium tin oxide (ITO) with concomitant optical transmission values. PEDOT films can be produced with a variety of thicknesses across a range of substrate materials from plastics to metals to ceramics, with sheet resistances down to 45 Ω/□ (ca. 3400 S·cm–1), and transparency in the visible spectrum of >80% at 65 nm thickness. This compares favorably to ITO and its currently touted replacements.

Abstract: Owing to their high conductivity, crystalline Li7–3xGaxLa3Zr2O12 garnets are promising electrolytes for all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries. Herein, the influence of Ga doping on the phase, lithium-ion distribution, and conductivity of Li7–3xGaxLa3Zr2O12 garnets is investigated, with the determined concentration and mobility of lithium ions shedding light on the origin of the high conductivity of Li7–3xGaxLa3Zr2O12. When the Ga concentration exceeds 0.20 Ga per formula unit, the garnet-type material is found to assume a cubic structure, but lower Ga concentrations result in the coexistence of cubic and tetragonal phases. Most lithium within Li7–3xGaxLa3Zr2O12 is found to reside at the octahedral 96h site, away from the central octahedral 48g site, while the remaining lithium resides at the tetrahedral 24d site. Abstract: In order to prevent polysulfide dissolution into liquid electrolytes and to promote the Li/S redox reaction (16Li + S 8 ↔ Li 2 Sn ↔ Li 2 S), nanosized Mg 0.6 Ni 0.4 O, which has the catalytic effect of chemical bond dissociating and is expected to have an adsorbing effect due to the effect of retaining liquid electrolyte of MgO in a Li/iron sulfide secondary battery, 16 was prepared by the sol-gel method as an electrochemically inactive additive for an elemental sulfur cathode for Li/S rechargeable batteries. The Li/S battery using an elemental sulfur cathode with a nanosized Mg 0.6 Ni 0.4 O added showed the improvement of not only the discharge capacity but also cycle durability (maximum discharge capacity: 1185 mAh/g sulfur, C 50 /C 1 = 85%).The rate capability of the sulfur cathode was also increased with the addition of the nanosized Mg 0.6 Ni 0.4 O. From the msults. it is confirmad that the nanosized Mg 0.6 Ni 0.4 O had the polysulfide adsorbing effect and the catalytic elfect of promoting Lt/S redox reaction. Furthermore, it is found that the nanosized Mg 0.6 Ni 0.4 O also increased the porosity of the sulfur cathode.
