Review of Electrothermal Actuators and Applications

Alissa Potekhina, +1 more
- 21 Sep 2019 -
TL;DR: A review of electrothermal micro-actuators and applications is presented in this paper, where the three main configurations of electro-thermal actuators are discussed: hot-and-cold-arm, chevron, and bimorph.

Survey on Recent Designs of Compliant Micro-/Nano-Positioning Stages

Zeyi Wu, +1 more
- 11 Feb 2018 -
TL;DR: This paper is concentrated on reviewing the state-of-the-art research on complaint micro-/nano-positioning stage design in recent years and involves the major processes and components for designing a compliant positioning stage, e.g., actuator selection, stroke amplifier design, connecting scheme of the multi-DOF stage and structure optimization.
Journal ArticleDOI

Operational characterization of CSFH MEMS Technology based hinges

TL;DR: A CSFH has been analyzed with both theoretical and finite element methods, in order to obtain the relation between voltage and generated torque, and showed that CSFH performs better than linear flexure hinges in terms of larger rotations and less stress for given applied voltage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recent design and development of piezoelectric-actuated compliant microgrippers: A review

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed the recent advances on performance indices, classification, structural composition, optimization and modeling method, and control of PEACM and provided a guideline on further development of the micro gripper.

A novel piezo-driven microgripper with a large jaw displacement

TL;DR: In this article, a two-grade amplification mechanism is introduced to enlarge the jaw displacement of the microgripper driven by a piezoelectric actuator, which adopts a hybrid flexure structure that integrates flexure hinge and flexure beam.

Control issues for MEMS

TL;DR: To close the control loop, extraction of reduced DOF 3D mirror models from finite element mechanical model is shown to be a very effective approach in predicting and optimizing dynamic performance of the nonlinear mirror drive.
Journal ArticleDOI

Design and manufacturing of mobile micro manipulation system with a compliant piezoelectric actuator based micro gripper

TL;DR: In this article, a compliant piezoelectric actuator based micro gripper is designed for handling the miniature parts and compensation of misalignment during peg-in-hole assembly.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Adhesion force modeling and measurement for micromanipulation

TL;DR: In this paper, a high-resolution force sensor using optical beam deflection techniques for characterizing object interactions at the microscale is presented. But the results of this analysis are limited to a variety of micropart shapes and materials.
Journal ArticleDOI

Actuation means for the mechanical stimulation of living cells via microelectromechanical systems: A critical review

TL;DR: Various microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) dedicated to the mechanical stimulation of living cells are surveyed and actuation means dependent upon the fact they can provide stimulation to a single cell, target a maximum of a hundred cells, or deal with thousands of cells are reported.
