Journal ArticleDOI

The GCN4 bZIP targets noncognate gene regulatory sequences: quantitative investigation of binding at full and half sites.

TL;DR: Electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) and circular dichroism (CD) show that comparable levels of alpha-helical structure are induced in wt bZIP upon binding to cognate AP-1 or noncognate sites, and nonc Cognate sites may contribute to preorganization of stable protein structure before binding target DNA sites.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recombinant bovine heart mitochondrial F1-ATPase inhibitor protein: overproduction in Escherichia coli, purification, and structural studies.

TL;DR: Experimental evidence obtained by circular dichroism analyses supports this prediction and suggests F1I to be a highly stable, mainly alpha-helical protein which displays C-terminal alpha- helical coiled-coil intermolecular interaction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Resistance of lipophilin, a hydrophobic myelin protein, to denaturation by urea and guanidinium salts.

TL;DR: The combined evidence suggests that the extraordinary resistance of lipophilin to these denaturants is due to the presence of an impervious hydrophobic core.
Journal ArticleDOI

Role of aromatic residues in the structure-function relationship of alpha-bungarotoxin.

TL;DR: The conformation of alpha-bungarotoxin and its cyanogen bromide cleaved and nitrated derivatives was studied by circular dichroism (CD) and indicates that Tyr-54 has a normal apparent dissociation constant and Tyr-24 ionizes at pH above 11.2.
