Journal ArticleDOI

Stabilizing and Destabilizing Clusters in the Hydrophobic Core of Long Two-stranded α-Helical Coiled-coils

TL;DR: The results suggested that the contribution of Leu to protein stability is context-dependent on whether the hydrophobe is in a stabilizing cluster or its proximity to neighboring destabilizing and stabilizing clusters.
Journal ArticleDOI

Protective effect of small amounts of sodium dodecyl sulfate on the helical structure of bovine serum albumin in thermal denaturation

TL;DR: In the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), the secondary structure of bovine serum albumin (BSA) was almost protected against thermal denaturation above 50 degrees C, where the structural change became irreversible.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cooperative binding of calcium to thrombospondin. The effect of calcium on the circular dichroism and limited tryptic digestion of thrombospondin.

TL;DR: Calcium was also found to affect the peptide pattern produced by limited tryptic digestion of thrombospondin, with some portions of the molecule being resistant to trypsin in the presence of calcium.
Journal ArticleDOI

The amphipathic α-helix concept

TL;DR: An original serie of 12‐ to 22‐residue‐long peptides was developed, they are only constituted by apolar Leu and charged Lys residues periodically located in the sequence in order to generate ideal highly amphipathic α‐helices.
