Abstract
Broadband wireless access systems deployed in residential and business environments are likely to face hostile radio propagation environments, with multipath delay spread extending over tens or hundreds of bit intervals. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplex (OFDM) is a recognized multicarrier solution to combat the effects of such multipath conditions. This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions. SC radio modems with frequency domain equalization have similar performance, efficiency, and low signal processing complexity advantages as OFDM, and in addition are less sensitive than OFDM to RF impairments such as power amplifier nonlinearities. We discuss similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and present examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.

Selective mapping for broadband single-carrier transmission using joint Tx/Rx MMSE-FDE

TL;DR: It is shown, by computer simulation, that the selective mapping (SLM) can reduce PAPR without significant effect on bit-error rate (BER).

Relay device, communication system, and communication method

TL;DR: In this paper, a relay apparatus (400) 400, which is applied to a communication system in which a control station apparatus (190) and a terminal apparatus (200) perform wireless communications using a plurality of sub-channels and relays the communications between the CSA and the TAs, has a receiving section (402) 402 that receives channel quality information indicative of channel quality of subchannels from the terminal apparatus(200), a compressing section (405) 405 that generates notification information to notify the control station (190), and a transmitting section 406 that transm

Fractionally spaced non-linear equalization of faster than Nyquist signals

TL;DR: This paper considers two suboptimal approaches based on non-linear equalization of the received signal, and an implementation of equalization filters in the frequency domain.

Novel two-dimensional multistage interference cancellation scheme for uplink transmission of single carrier cyclic prefix-assisted CDMA system

TL;DR: In this article, a two-dimensional multistage interference cancellation scheme for uplink transmission of a high-speed single carrier cyclic prefix-assisted CDMA system is proposed, where equalisation and interference regeneration are performed in the frequency domain while data decision and interference subtraction is done in the time domain.

Single-carrier index modulation and CS detection

Jinho Choi
TL;DR: The resulting approach, which is referred to as SCIM, has a better performance due to the path diversity gain under a multipath fading environment and a transmit diversity scheme is proposed, which can improve the performance in terms of the diversity gain, but also increase the number of information bits per signal block.

Analysis and Simulation of a Digital Mobile Channel Using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing

TL;DR: The analysis and simulation of a technique for combating the effects of multipath propagation and cochannel interference on a narrow-band digital mobile channel using the discrete Fourier transform to orthogonally frequency multiplex many narrow subchannels, each signaling at a very low rate, into one high-rate channel is discussed.

BER sensitivity of OFDM systems to carrier frequency offset and Wiener phase noise

TL;DR: In this contribution the transmission of M-PSK and M-QAM modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signals over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered and the degradation of the bit error rate is evaluated.
