Frequency domain equalization for single-carrier broadband wireless systems
TLDR
This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions and discusses similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and presents examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.Abstract:
Broadband wireless access systems deployed in residential and business environments are likely to face hostile radio propagation environments, with multipath delay spread extending over tens or hundreds of bit intervals. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplex (OFDM) is a recognized multicarrier solution to combat the effects of such multipath conditions. This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions. SC radio modems with frequency domain equalization have similar performance, efficiency, and low signal processing complexity advantages as OFDM, and in addition are less sensitive than OFDM to RF impairments such as power amplifier nonlinearities. We discuss similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and present examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.read more

Hybrid-Domain Sequence Detector for Training Sequence-Aided Single-Carrier Block Transmission Signals
TL;DR: A hybrid-domain sequence detector that combines FD prefiltering with time-domain tree search detection that achieves a detection performance that is very close to that of the conventional tree search equalizers, but with a much lower complexity.

Study of Widely Linear SC-FDE Systems for Interference Cancellation
TL;DR: In this article, a performance analysis of widely linear (WL) equalizers for single carrier systems using frequency domain equalization (SC-FDE) under multiple independent interferences is presented, and the expressions of the mean square error (MSE) and bit error rate (BER) for linear and WL equalizers in their regular and iterative versions for this scenario were derived.

SC-FDE with soft packet combining ARQ techniques for interference-limited UWB systems
TL;DR: UWB (Ultra Wide Band) systems employing SC-FDE techniques in the presence of strong interference signals that occupy a significant part of the transmission band are considered and a suitable soft combining ARQ schemes are proposed.
A new beamforming method for single carrier modulation system with cyclic prefix
TL;DR: The proposed weight control method is based on the maximization of the signal-tointerference-plus-noise power ratio (SINR) at the discrete frequency domain equalizer output and can increase the received signal power by capturing multiple delayed signals within the guard interval (GI), while avoiding the noise enhancement at the equalizer.
