Frequency domain equalization for single-carrier broadband wireless systems

TLDR
This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions and discusses similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and presents examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.
Abstract
Broadband wireless access systems deployed in residential and business environments are likely to face hostile radio propagation environments, with multipath delay spread extending over tens or hundreds of bit intervals. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplex (OFDM) is a recognized multicarrier solution to combat the effects of such multipath conditions. This article surveys frequency domain equalization (FDE) applied to single-carrier (SC) modulation solutions. SC radio modems with frequency domain equalization have similar performance, efficiency, and low signal processing complexity advantages as OFDM, and in addition are less sensitive than OFDM to RF impairments such as power amplifier nonlinearities. We discuss similarities and differences of SC and OFDM systems and coexistence possibilities, and present examples of SC-FDE performance capabilities.

IB-DFE with interference alignment precoding scheme for MC-CDMA systems

TL;DR: An IA precoding at the transmitter with IB-DFE based processing at the receiver for MC-CDMA systems and the results have shown that the obtained performance is very close to the one obtained by the optimal matched filter, with few iterations at the Receiver side.

Efficient cyclic prefix reconstruction using decision feedback filter for coded single-carrier systems with frequency-domain equalization (SC-FDE)

TL;DR: In this paper, an efficient cyclic prefix reconstruction scheme is proposed for single-carrier systems with Frequency Domain Equalization (SC-FDE) that employ insufficient length of CP at the transmitter.

New Hybrid Decision Feedback Equalization for DS-CDMA Systems

TL;DR: A novel hybrid decision-feedback equalizer (HDFE) for direct sequence code-division multiple-access (DS-CDMA) systems to improve their performance in highly time-dispersive fading environments by integrating despreading and re-spreading in the feedback process.

Investigations on Optimum Reference Signal Structure for Single-Carrier FDMA Radio Access in Evolved UTRA Uplink

TL;DR: It is shown that an RS structure that comprises two RS blocks contained within the duration of a 1-msec sub-frame is the most promising candidate based on superior user throughput under low mobility conditions and on a high degree of commonality of radio parameters such as that in the downlink.

SIMO and MIMO FDE transmission in optical fiber with PMD

TL;DR: Analysis of a PMD compensation method using FDE shows that MMSE based SIMO and MIMO FDE weights in the PMD channel are identical because of the unitarity of the Jones matrix.

Analysis and Simulation of a Digital Mobile Channel Using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing

TL;DR: The analysis and simulation of a technique for combating the effects of multipath propagation and cochannel interference on a narrow-band digital mobile channel using the discrete Fourier transform to orthogonally frequency multiplex many narrow subchannels, each signaling at a very low rate, into one high-rate channel is discussed.

BER sensitivity of OFDM systems to carrier frequency offset and Wiener phase noise

TL;DR: In this contribution the transmission of M-PSK and M-QAM modulated orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signals over an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is considered and the degradation of the bit error rate is evaluated.
