TLDR
Comparative studies are now allowing many of these properties of Dendritic cells to be more fully understood in the context of human immunology.Abstract:
Dendritic cells are highly adapted to their role of presenting antigen and directing immune responses. Developmental studies indicate that DCs originate independently from monocytes and tissue macrophages. Emerging evidence also suggests that distinct subsets of DCs have intrinsic differences that lead to functional specialisation in the generation of immunity. Comparative studies are now allowing many of these properties to be more fully understood in the context of human immunology.read more

Expression of PD-L1 on Monocytes Is a Novel Predictor of Prognosis in Natural Killer/T-Cell Lymphoma.
Xuewen Zhang,Xiwen Bi,Panpan Liu,Ze-long Liu,Man Nie,Hang Yang,De-xin Lei,Yi Xia,Wenqi Jiang,Wei-an Zeng +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the expression of PD-L1 on stromal cells was measured in NKTert and HS5 cells when cultured alone or co-cultured with NKTCL cell lines.

An efficient and simple co-culture method for isolating primary human hepatic cells: Potential application for tumor microenvironment research.
TL;DR: In the present study, high protein expression levels of desmin and GFAP were observed in the hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), which underlined the identity of activated HSCs.

Myeloid but not plasmacytoid blood DCs possess Th1 polarizing and Th1/Th17 recruiting capacity in psoriasis.
Ahmad Khasawneh,Sándor Baráth,B. Medgyesi,Gabriella Béke,Zsolt Dajnoki,Krisztián Gáspár,Adrienn Jenei,L. Pogácsás,Kitti Pazmandi,János Gaál,Attila Bacsi,Andrea Szegedi,Anikó Kapitány +12 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that in psoriasis not only skin but also blood mDCs perform Th1 polarizing and Th1/Th17 recruiting capacity, while pDCs function only in the skin milieu.

A Framework of All Discovered Immunological Pathways and Their Roles for Four Specific Types of Pathogens and Hypersensitivities
TL;DR: A new THαβ immunological pathway against viruses is proposed, derived from the traditional TH1 responses, which is associated with intracellular bacteria and protozoa.
The relationship between vitamin D status in early life and the developing immune phenotype: lessons from observational studies and a randomised controlled trial
TL;DR: The rapid rise in prevalence and coincidence with industrialisation indicates that changes in environment and lifestyle must be responsible for the epidemic proportions of allergic diseases in Westernized countries.

The nature of the principal type 1 interferon-producing cells in human blood.
Frederick P. Siegal,Norimitsu Kadowaki,Michael Shodell,Patricia Fitzgerald-Bocarsly,Kokila Shah,Stephen Ho,Svetlana Antonenko,Yong-Jun Liu +7 more
TL;DR: Purified IPCs are here shown to be the CD4(+)CD11c- type 2 dendritic cell precursors (pDC2s), which produce 200 to 1000 times more IFN than other blood cells after microbial challenge and are thus an effector cell type of the immune system, critical for antiviral and antitumor immune responses.

TL;DR: The present document proposes a nomenclature for monocytes and defines 3 types of monocytes (classical, intermediate, and nonclassical monocytes) and3 types of dendritic cells (plasmacytoid and 2 types of myeloid dendrites) in human and in mouse blood.

Proliferating dendritic cell progenitors in human blood.
Nikolaus Romani,S Gruner,D. Brang,Eckhart Kämpgen,Angela Lenz,B Trockenbacher,G Konwalinka,Peter O. Fritsch,Ralph M. Steinman,Gerold Schuler +9 more
TL;DR: Large numbers of DC progenitors are observed in cord blood and in adult blood from healthy donors, which should facilitate future studies of their Fc epsilon RI and CD4 receptors, and their use in stimulating T cell-mediated resistance to viruses and tumors.

Reciprocal Control of T Helper Cell and Dendritic Cell Differentiation
Marie-Clotilde Rissoan,Vassili Soumelis,Norimitsu Kadowaki,Géraldine Grouard,Francine Brière,Rene de Waal Malefyt,Yong-Jun Liu +6 more
TL;DR: A negative feedback loop from the mature T helper cells may selectively inhibit prolonged TH1 or TH2 responses by regulating survival of the appropriate dendritic cell subset.

Plasmacytoid monocytes migrate to inflamed lymph nodes and produce large amounts of type I interferon.
Marina Cella,David Jarrossay,Fabio Facchetti,Olga Alebardi,Hideo Nakajima,Antonio Lanzavecchia,Marco Colonna +6 more
TL;DR: Results, with the distinct cell phenotype, indicate that plasmacytoid monocytes represent a specialized cell lineage that enters inflamed lymph nodes at high endothelial venules, where it produces type I interferon.
